Tracking deer no hunting wwyd

I did ask about trumping the park managers control. The guy I spoke to represented the warden but wasn't him directly. However he told me that it's park land so the warden would not be able to really do anything. I asked if the park manager wouldn't allow me if I could call warden. Basically it's worth a shot is what they said. So in turn seems as though this ain't something that's in the books it varies by situation.

I think that by creating a good working relationship with everyone involved can only help the situation.

To me that would be your best bet. They definitely don't want dead critters stinking up the park but at the same time they don't want people dragging deer down trails without their knowledge. Make sure you express your optimism about making a clean and ethical kill and hopefully you will never have to contact them but at the same time show them you are a realist and that things can happen. You just want them to be as prepared for the situation if it may arise as well.
 
I was told by a warden that a game warden can not force a landowner to allow you on their property. He is allowed to show up with you in person and allow the uniform to be a form of influence.

Correct. At least the way my warden told me it was.

Good luck Albert. I think I would find out before, but that is just me. Some parks, city owned properties allow it. Some only allow it if you know who to ask.

This is something I am contemplating. I might now even hunt it this year. So idk if I want to draw attention to myself and my buddy. I am thinking better to ask after the fact if this occurs. I also think you are correct as well. Hmm.

I'm sure this has been done many times and a good reason the park manager would be less then willing to help a hunter out. I'm sure there have been more then a few hunters leave a bad taste in the parks mouth over the years and unfortunately we are all grouped together in those situations. If it was me,the more proactive you can be the better. Don't wait until it happens and look like a fool to the manager and give him a reason not to like and work with you. Get on the same page early and work with each other before something happens. It will save a lot of hassle in the long-term.
 
I ran into this situation many a times while hunting in north central ohio. Not once, was I prohibited from retrieving game taken legally on surrounding land.

Go talk to the manager, introduce yourself, let it be known you are following the law on the land you are hunting and want to be sure out of respect for the game/hunting that you want to obtain permission ahead time. Should absolutely be no issue unless you ruin your first impression.
 
I agree 100% with those suggesting you call the park manager first as well. But, still video and take pics! I'm telling you especially if you kill or your buddy kill a booner!!! It's others that either hunt the same deer or the antis out there feeding or watching these deer! Cover your ass or face the rumor mill consequences Albert, it's sad but the way it is when urban monsters are killed!

I called the Park services this morning. They said to simply call a park ranger if this happens. They will escort you to get the deer. I do have another call to make to a park ranger and I will let you all know what they say.

I believe in doing things by the books so I am excited to see what occurs.

Had it happen 5o a buddy of mine last year. He shot one on public and it ran onto a no hunting area at kill deer plains wildlife area. Called the warden. He showed the GW where the shot was and the blood leading into the red zone. He and the warden went in to recover it. Easy peasy.

From what I have discovered through this process is to be honest and the warden will help you. They are around to support the hunters not hurt them.

Most of those park people enjoy wildlife and I would bet a good portion of them would be hunters themselves. Good stuff!!

Bingo! Sadly, many of the stories we read on the internet are not happy stories. Run ins with WO (who are not online to give the other side of the story) are one sided stories by disgruntled outdoorsmen. We don't often hear about the positives or non-issues. We don't hear about when they help out the hunter.
 
I wonder how many of the stories on the Internet where people are dissatisfied with the warden actually left a little bit of a story out?

About 99%. Glad it worked out for. I was off air but myself I would have contacted the GW and Park Ranger before hunting to.
If you see it on a internet forum don't believe it. But of course if it's on the TOO forum take it to the bank it's OK.

I helped a guy track a deer into a MP last year. He called the Ranger and the ranger came right over and helped us. The ranger also told us that this is the preferred way to do it. They will have a totally different attitude if someone in full camo is reported.
 
thanks again to everyone who took a minute or two to post in this thread. I think this thread has really taught me a lot. Seems I was like most, I assumed I would be totally fucked if the deer ran back onto the park. I assumed that I might have to give up on a great place to hunt or have to flirt with legality( not my style). I am so happy to have found out that it is legal, and that the park rangers are here to assist.

I now have peace of mind, and I am ready to get this place setup. Probably be more of a small farm to hunt next year!
