Trapping Season 2025-2026

What are they going for this year?
Not exactly sure yet, but I’ll be happy if I average $2.50 for them. I’ve also got a buyer for the carcasses at $1.50 each… So a $4.00 average would be respectable I think. Still a far cry from $10-12 from a decade or so ago, though. There’s an OSTA auction coming up in a couple of weeks. That will be pretty enlightening I think.

Operation Egg eaters is back up and running this weekend. Set 15 DPs today. See what we have in the morning

Feeding the local buzzard population. The land owner asked me to help with them. They like their barn cats and the coons will come in and take over the place even killing the new born kittens. It's a good farm for Sydney and I to turkey and deer hunt so I'm doing my part to stay in good standing plus it probably helps the turkey poults also

You people cost me money all the damn time. Now you are taking up my time too! Lol, something to do since someone took care of most of the squirrels the last couple of years. BoredView attachment 216981View attachment 216982View attachment 216983
I know, just in time for the cold snap. But I think they'll last beyond that, 😅
You’re gonna have some fun!

Whatever you attach those chains to, make sure it’s tight and not a bunch of loose chain, if you can help it. If not you might find a knotted-up mess with a raccoon in it.

Good luck!

I've been using these since last year, didn't want to mess with anchors. Haven't had one pull it yet! Just make sure they can not grab anything that they can climb to pull up while in the trap. Like a tree, brush or fence posts.

Grip-On 18" Rebar Stake with Loop

Those are great. Only think I don’t like about them is there’s nothing to swivel around the stake itself. As long as the stake spins inside the soil, in theory it’ll be fine. But if not, and the raccoon gets your chain/cable wrapped around the top of that stake, a big boar can/will pump that stake out of the ground if he’s got the leverage of the shortened chain to pull upwards. Unlikely, I know. But crazy things happen when trapping sometimes. Lol

I pound the stake down through the swivel opening. Only use the loop to keep from sliding off the top. This allows it to have full 360 rotation without spinning the stake
