went to a spot this morning that usually if there in the woods you can kill them as soon as they hit the ground, got in there late and he was gobbling before i could get to my usual spot so i tucked in where i was and they pitched down perfect where they always do but instead of coming up the hill they went out thru the bottom. i said to hell with it and was still at work before 7.
Here's the run down on my bird "pencil beard". I named him that the first time I saw him in the field over a week ago. We set up to kill him Monday but he was a no show. I get up Wednesday morning after 3 hours of sleep still debating on which farm to hunt. On the way I decided to hit my new spot. I pulled in at 5am, by 5:15 I was set up on the edge of a cow pasture next to a neighboring field that holds a lot of birds in the morning and throughout the day. 6:30 rolls around and I hadn't heard one gobble. About 6:40 I get up to glass across the road and sure as shit there's a strutter with a hen in the field we set up on Monday morning so I decided to bust a move. I ran down the hill of the cow pasture, across the road, halfway down the ditch along the alfalfa and set up in my natural blind along the field. I didn't like that setup so I got up and climbed the ridge to my pop up. Got in the blind, made a few calls, no gobble. Got out of the blind, climbed the hill overlooking the field he was in and made a few more calls, nothing. Got back in my blind and yelped again, he gobbled and he was coming up the hill I came up. For the next 5-6 minutes I heard clucking and gobbling behind me and I thought he was hung up and wasn't coming in. I got the slate out and made a few quick cuts and yelps and that must of got him in the mood because he started walking down the trail that would lead him 10 yards in front of my blind, and the rest is history

Yep. Had another good hunt this morning. They are still being turkeys, gobbling, strutting, all the good stuff. Good luck when you get out!
Hopefully getting out Monday or Tuesday depending on this crud BS... My buddy who I was rabbit hunting hasn't been turkey hunting in a few years and said he wants to go out with me lol...

I got out this morning as well...wife said they were in the driveway right after I left for work. Until a big Tom shows up, I'll continue to be healthy and showing up to work on time.
Does t do any good to go out and then start coughing and spooking em outta there....

Was gonna have someone work for me tomorrow but with the storms coming in I'm not really wanting to sit in the rain even tho I've had good hunts in the rain. I left the house at 6:15 this morning and the bird I was on yesterday was in the field already with a hen so I might try that again before work.
