No gobbling all weekend. Yesterday i look out and there's a group feeding through the cut corn on our property less than 100 yards away. By the time i got Coop dressed they were gone and no reply to my calling. Today Coop asked if we could go out once it warmed up. After supper we went out to ambush them between where I've seen them often and where they like to roost (where i saw them Friday evening). We got set up about 6:40. About 7:25 we hear a gobbler behind us making his way towards us. When we moved to make a move on him a group of 7 Jakes came right in where we had been sitting. We held tight and one made a mistake of walking into range of the 20ga shooting 3" #9 TSS. Coop had never shot my benelli before and said ouch after but he rolled the jake.

The plan worked... kinda and there are plenty of birds for me to me with in the upcoming weeks.

I don't have any pics other than Greyson passed out, but my buddy Cole took him out all day today. They pretty much had birds around them all day answering calls. Cole said he could feel Grey's heart thumping when the birds would get close. At 1 spot they had 2 big gobblers at 10 yards, Greyson thought he could move his leg for a better angle. Bye bye birds. He had a blast for his first turkey hunting experience

Had a hen on the side of the house out in a kudzu Thicket, I could see her plain as day, the Tom gobbling his head off a 100 yards east of her, not so much…. He gobbled his fool head off for a half hour. She wanted nothing too do with him.
Lol, you wanna change her thinking? Try calling to him. 😂🤣😂

Looks like a soaker Monday for the WV opener. I’ll probably make the short trip across the river tomorrow evening in hopes of roosting some since I’m already down here and have Monday off to hunt. The area has a lot of clear cuts and fields mixed throughout the hardwoods so the plan is to try to glass and find some after fly down if I’m unable roost them tomorrow evening. As the saying goes, the worst day of hunting…
