I used to love morning like this. That morning spring storm when a turkey answers every thunder. Then when the rain let up or quit, they'd walk through the yard to get to the field. That hasn't happened in years. I could've killed one from the porch many years on a morning like this.
Now that I think of it, I haven't ever seen a turkey this season.

Well I had the right plan this morning but failed to execute. Woods was so thick I didn't see or hear the birds until they were i side 20 yards, I was dead in the water my gun was laying on my lap and I couldn't move I'll try again with the kids this weekend.

I hunted until 1130. Saw one hen at 11. Five deer and a coon before that. Moved the blind to the back of the farm for the morning hunt.

Thanks! I’m pretty sure it is all about luck at this point. Lol. It seems to me the tricks and tactics I’ve used in the past no longer work... or the turkeys just ain’t acting right and have not since early in the season. I’ll get up because you never know what will happen until ya go.

The excitement so far this morning is nearly overwhelming.
Mason was supposed to be on the next ridge. As I was just finishing up getting everything in order at my blind, he came over. Apparently he thought the early morning light rain would get in the way of his nap.

Lol. I don’t think so. Good think it was simply that we were hunting turkeys that didn’t want to be seen or heard. Still, it’s only the second time all season I didn’t see a turkey. And both hunts were very short. Knowing they are around but refusing to gobble is just too much incentive to call it quits.
This season was a tough one. Good job to all those who scored.

Got this tom on cam this afternoon and Tyler heard him gobbling behind my house. Then the 6 jakes were in the field by the houses. Things look promising for next year.

I think there are so many hens roaming around still because their nests are being increasingly predated on. Can't sit on eggs if they get ravaged constantly.Driving home from Hillsboro a half hour ago, I spied a lone hen picking in a field. Apparently she doesn’t know she is supposed to be on a nest! Dang hens out walking around and gobblers completely disappeared recently. Can’t say I’m disappointed it’s over for a spell.
