Under armour drops sponsorship for spearing bear

Maybe I am totally off on this but it seems like there are two different conversations here.

1. I 100% support any hunting activity that is legal within a state, province, etc. For the reasons mentioned above about losing other rights.
2. I believe the secondary topic here is would you support spear hunting with your company? Do you feel it is the best overall image? I see Mathews, Bowtech, and all the other companies out there supporting whitetail hunters who shoot deer over plots, bait, fixed blade heads, mechanical heads, etc. However I don't see them supporting guys hunting whitetails with dogs (although legal). I think there is a fine line between supporting your hunting heritage vs. antis and trying to define what a companies corporate image needs to be because we believe they should support every aspect of hunting. If UA was supporting a movement to outlaw spear hunting this conversation would be a lot different.

I also agree with Albert here and Jesse and Brock's points they make in their posts as well!

Common sense goes along way! The girl(vetinarian I believe) that posted a pic of herself holding a feral cat she shot in the head with her bow on FB or some social media outlet. WTH YA DUMBASS!!! She's paying for it but there again, use your head!

The anti's are constantly watching for instances like that to bring it out into the public magnifying glass to make us look bad!

Great discussion and points made on both sides!

You guys really need to read "Rules for Radicals". With the soft stance many have hunting will be a mythological story to our (my age) grandchildren.

Simple really. UA dropping the sponsorship is furthering the Anti's agenda.

Why support a company with free branding and buying more of there shit if they won't support you if a minor (less than 4k signed the petition) loud voice doesn't like it.

They didn't wait to see if the article was right...fuck UA.

I'm not saying I will support UA, but I don't think they are the anti-Christ for not wanting to sponsor a douchebag. I don't know why anyone supports hunting vids/shows honestly. People are on here all the time saying they don't even watch this crap because it's not reflective of their hunting experience. Well, no crap. But from an "outside" perspective, this crap is the only thing a non-hunter has to base the hunting experience on. We are our own worst enemy. When people put crap like this out there, or perhaps a rabbit slaying video, it makes us all look like clowns and knuckle-dragging morons. That isn't me, or most others. And quite honestly, if the antis get the political clout to stop legal hunting, I'll keep right on doing my thing. The only difference would be I wouldn't be posting pics or stories on the web. I won't apologize for what I love to do in the woods, but I won't defend a douchebag either. And I'm not going to bash UA for not supporting someone that gives a black eye to "sportsmen".

...

Of course companies whose only market is the hunting community will make those statements. Now go find that statememt from a company where hunters represent 5% of its gross sales. And go...

I wonder how many sportsmen will stop buying at the retailers like Bass Pro, Cabelas, the fin that continue to sell UA???

This discussion reminds me of this poem by Martin Niemöller,
" First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

The basic premise is the same to me. They know they can't outlaw hunting all at once so they start by going after the least supported and when they get that outlawed they move to the next. We have more strength if we fight them together.

It's not about the % of how much hunters represent of their gross sales. It's about us not supporting them after they did not support us. Hell, they can do what they want but I feel it is masochistic to want to continue to support that brand.

I don't know, the charged cotton shirt I'm wearing right now feels pretty good. Certainly nothing like hurting myself...

Gotta look past the brand and see the pending future.
I disagree. I see both. For the sake of this discussion, I'm sitting on the brand side of the fence. I'm clearly a brand fanboy as I own a good 50-60 pieces of UA branded gear, so who better to argue in their favor? That said, I don't disagree with what you guys are saying about the whittling away at our rights. Very truthful argument.

I still think spear chucking is an asinine method of hunting in 2016. Just because we can (or used to), doesn't mean we should be. You mention masochism and IMO, that applies more to arrogant hunters who think promoting the spearing of bears is a good idea in 2016. That's self-inflicted.

I would not be on the bandwagon of promoting spear hunting. But I am also not against it.

The point that I think is bigger than anything a brand can offer is hunter rights. It is literally attacked daily. Sean would be a good one to chime in hear but the things being done that I know of right now are:

- Spear hunting
- Running dogs
- Land being taken as Fed land and then being made "sanctuaries" (i.e. no hunting)
- Hunter harassment
- Predator introduction

Etc...

Giving in, at all, is just another win for them. Erosion is their plan and it has always worked because men will not take a stand. We will be Europe within 20 years.

The have resolve. Can't say that for many hunters.

We may have the clocks but they have the time....

Could you share what exactly is a non-asinine method for ending the life of another creature?

Thank you! I was thinking if this very thing the other day but could not remember if it was written literature or a scene from a movie. I have also read something very similar from a Jewish man who survived the holocaust.

I'll put my throwing accuracy up against anyone on this forum. I started throwing shit at 18 months and haven't quit. 30 years on a baseball diamond ans I'm I'll certain I can hit you square in the face from 60' 6" 97 out of a 100 times. You guys are nuts if you think there's even a comparison here because as seasoned a thrower as I am, I'll never come close to the precision of modern archery equipment. And to think of all the assholes at Walmart the week of bow season buying deer hunting spears over arrows is frightening. It's a ridiculous comparison IMO.

I will take that challenge.
