Utility trailers, lets talk

I have been wanting to pick one up for a few years. I am a big fan of tandem axles. Wife is pushing more towards a car hauler but I would like something lighter so we can pull them around with the tacomas. Levi is wanting to start a lawn business so that is my current push. I could sell his truck and get him in something bigger pretty easily.

Pros/cons with a car hauler or utility?

What do you have and why?

Brands?

I took the neighbors TSC trailer to grab a quad a few weeks ago. It did what it is designed to do.

Guessing it is 12' or maybe 14'. Ramp is a little short for lawn mower angle. But manageable.

I have been looking off and on for over a year now. Seems like I can get alot of trailer for cheaper than a small trailer. Lol. So I am not against buying an equipment trailer either.

I did a bunch of shopping back in the summer. I was dead set on a 7x14' tandem, just never pulled the trigger. That size will haul my tractor with the brushhog on, and I can sit the tiller up front and sit the bucket on top. It will fit multiple quads with gear and would make an all-around good trailer. I'd go 6x10 or 12 if I was a one man lawn crew. Dad has a 6x10 single axle that's great for this purpose. One man can move it and it'll haul everything you need to be a lawn boy.

You can't go wrong with a 7x14 tandem. The Sure-Trac and SLE models are solid IMO. The Carry-Ons at TSC are decent as well. If money were no object, I'd probably buy a Gator.

These are built right here too. Close enough I can hear their shop crew leave the shop. I am a sucker for buying local but I am not really thinking new at this point.

Better go 18 if you want to haul cars. Or attachments. Tractor with a bush hog takes a lot of room. Suretrac, Texas Bragg, pretty much anything with a decent name brand behind it should treat you well. They will make Ben's trailer look cheap though. Can get expensive when buying what is essentially going to be an equipment trailer.

If I go with a car hauler or equipment trailer, it'll be 20 or 22 footer.

I have a 18' coyote equipment trailer and love it. It will haul your tractors or a small car. If I remember it will handle right around 5.5k. You can get double zero turns on it and have room for a few other small attachments. I have towed it with a 150 with zero issues with a 2025r JD on it.

We had a 6x10 diamond c when my brother and I were doing lawns. Big enough for a 60” zero turn and a 36” walk behind. It served us well, it was heavier duty than what we needed.

Only downsides were weight and a short ramp that hung up on the striping kit sometimes.

I have this one. I think it's 7'x10'? I'd have to measure it. Got it outside of Millersburg.

Got a good deal as it was used for a day before the guy wanted a slightly larger one, had the spare, and trailer brakes and Is all aluminum. My mini skid steer Max's out it's carrying weight but it does fine with a 6x8 building, my mower and other stuff.

And was made right here in my back yard, lol. 👍🏾

Something to chew on. Find a Texas Bragg or similar quality 6x10 or 6x12. Now shop for the same trailer used. Compare the cost differences. You might find they hold their value so well that you get one for the mowers, quads, golf carts, etc. Maybe you keep it when you buy a larger one. Maybe you sell it and only lose a few hundred after using it several years. Even five years old they might not be much cheaper than new.

That is the wife's way of thinking with a car hauler. Pretty much the same money as a small trailer and I could sell if down the road if I dont like it. I just dont want to sell his tacoma to buy him a bigger truck. I understand her side of having a small trailer with a 1 ton sitting here. (She was going to get me one for Christmas and I told her to wait)
