No such thing as free. You already said it: "I'll do the work". Hope it pans out for you bub. You put in your time and let work. Anyone who says different doesn't know you.

Welp, looks like it’s time to start feeding the deer like livestock. Unreal

I purchase whole corn locally at our TS and have been the past couple of years, This year, I would say it went up by nearly a couple of bucks, but I buy in bulk (at least 20 bags at a time) to qualify for a slightly more discount. Don't know what other TS charge in your area, but I've been getting it here cheaper than what they have been advertising recently and they have been honoring the price I been paying since before the real price hikes hit. I also get bonus points for each purchase that I can apply to my orders. In some cases, I even get my regular orders for nearly half the price by being apart of their 'preferred neighbor' program.

Thought I'd pass this information forward if by chance you're not aware of it.

Glad you’ve found it a bit cheaper 👍🏼. I get mine from a buddy at $5/50 lb basically straight out of the combine lol. Crazy to me that actual cattle feed is cheaper per pound than shelled corn

Edit: Just called the local feed store and they’re at $7.50/50 lb

Good deal Issac!

I prefer the TS bags for handling and storage purposes. I can get it from my neighbor farmer after harvest, but it's a pain in the ass I found out last year trying to keep it fresh and from spoiling. I don't seem to mind getting it where I currently get it cause I purchase several other products through TS and in comparing the difference in cost, it's really not that much of a savings than getting it from my neighbor.

Straight out of the combine as in he puts it in 50lb sacks and brings it into work on a pallet for me 😅

I have a somewhat type of same deal with my neighbor pretty much.

Living in this low creek valley of ours, with constant humidity/moisture in the air, my neighbor sacks or whenever I shoveled it directly out of his truck into previously opened sack/bag didn't cut it for any long term storage in our somewhat dry barn. Most of it spoiled for some reason or another on me, and rather quickly. Never had issue with any of the unopened TS bagged whole corn, ever.

I will though, once again get with him this fall when he does his harvests, to compensate and/or back fill my current needs when I can, but not to store in bulk for long periods at a time. Last year I took on too much of his corn and lost most of it.

He drives right by my place every year when he harvests his fields all day long and all I have to do is just let him know when I want any of it, then he swings by in his tandem box truck just before heads to the local silo to sell it. I always pay more then what he sells it for, just for his trouble delivering it to me. I made that arrangement with him last year for the first time when I started hunting his beautiful property for coyotes. Super nice guy!

Again, good deal Issac! Glad to see it!

Out of the combine isn't usually dry enough to keep and not spoil. Getting it from the mill is.

Yeah, I found that out, perhaps the hard way. At the time though, I thought it would last longer than what it actually did, trying to keep it in one the driest places I have in the barn. It didn't work out as planned. So, I will continue to get it from my neighbor, but only as needed to fulfill the feed station at that time until I can't get it anymore from him, then back to buying it from Tractor Supply.

If it is sealed in a container I could see it get moldy. If it's in breathable sacks I would think it would fare much better? I remember years ago cutting pine branches and fresh needles and packing them in with my hunting clothes in a lockable container. Thought I was doing a great thing til I opened the container a week before season to add a few more things and discovered everything had mildew on it. My dad gave me a good lesson on why that happened.

Even in a breathable container/grain bin with fans, it'll get hot and go to shit. The moisture level inside the corn itself is the issue. But yes, it will last longer in a breathable situation.

Very important question would be: Does the farmer have a drier? If he does, see about getting it after he dries it. That will be the same as TSC of feed mill folks.

Not many people harvesting corn these days that doesn't need to be ran thru a drier. Or at least need to have fans run for a few days.

Been getting corn from the same farmer here for the past 15 years. $6 per 50 this year. Never had any problem with it rotting but pretty sure he doesn't have a drier. He's a small family farm. But he usually waits to harvest until the moisture content is low

Hes one of the few left. I hope he keeps it up and doesn't get bought out by the bug farmer. Keep supporting him! 👍
