Got the alfalfa mix mowed on the gas line one last time before season.

Looks real nice @Bigslam51 (y)

Beautiful spot 'TOO'!

I did some of the same the other day myself near my most recent setup.

Around noon or so today, I'll be swapping out SD cards out of the cameras.

May relocate a couple of them to different locations.

It's suppose to rain again tonight and tomorrow, so I think I will go ahead and hang my last hang on tree stand during that time.

That 'TOO' will be entirely a new location for this season.

Getting down to crunch time.

Next week will be going over everything that goes into my back-pack, while washing hunting clothes & hanging them on the clothes line, then I'll be good to go come opening day.

Until then, I'll be practicing like have been over the last four weeks.

My first session of the day this morning shooting five arrows at a Pepsi can from fifty yards.

12 days 16 hours 59 minutes

I decided to hold off on heading out into the woods this afternoon. I'm gonna wait until the tropical rains tomorrow and do all that stuff I was talking about earlier, then.

Instead,

I'll be mowing around the wooded area of the property the rest of the afternoon and try to get rid of some of the fallen leaves.

Before I jumped on the mower though , I went ahead and got my second practice session out of the way shooing from 40 yards targeting a Pepsi can.

Two out of five arrows from 40 hit the can with a decent four arrow group and one stupid flyer.

Pretty  thumb nail photograph for the video.

An arrow captured just before impact.

The wife handed my yesterday's mail with my lunch earlier (y)

Almost full-draw and this happens:

FUGG!!!

I suppose I wore the SOB out - that stupid Mother-F'er!

First time that's ever happen to me.

I suppose I'll be taking a break from bow practice until I get a new one put back on.

That's alright,

it's suppose to rain over the next 24 hours or so and I have plenty of other things to do to keep me busy.

Still sucks though :(

__________________________________________

@giles - "do I continue this training during the season?"

Not so much as continued training really...

What I often do, is check my bow each time I return home from the field by simply firing off a few arrows at my target 'BLOCK'.

I usually do this right after each one of my morning hunts.

I do it with whatever I am wearing at the time, including my back-pack and/or climber strapped on over my shoulders, and/or heavy winter clothes on, including heavy winter gloves 'TOO'.

Typically, right before I hit my wood-stove heated workshop while hiking back from any of my hunting locations.

I'll stop right in front of my target 'BLOCK', approximately 30 yards away, then fire off a couple of arrows just to make sure everything is copacetic.

My two main reasons why I do this;
  1. 'TOO" make sure my equipment is still on target and working properly
  2. 'TOO' get used to shooting with all my shit on me, especially during the winter with my winter gear on, including having my back-pack and/or climber on as well.
I have always done 'still hunts' 'TOO' and from all my hunting locations with an arrow nocked - always ready 'TOO' 'Rock& Roll'.

I've killed plenty of wild game this way over the years.

Good deal, just had me wondering because this is a pretty serious amount of dedication and I’d hate to see a mistake happen because you stopped.

As far as the bow...didn’t you just redo that this year? I’d take a close look at my release if it was me. I don’t see it getting worn out, I see a burr or something on the release causing that issue.

Alright Dave,

pretty serious amount of dedication and you'd hate to see a mistake happen because I stopped.

pretty serious amount of dedication - meaning what really?
see a mistake - what mistake?
And stop what?

I really have no clue what you're talking about there...

Secondly,

Yes,

I had my compound bow restrung a little over a month ago. All the more reason as to why I'm freaking pissed off about it.

Granted,

I had the poundage increased from 64# to 70#, but that shouldn't made any kind of difference regarding the stupid loop I would think.

The release loop had offered up no signs of wear or tear before it broke.

And NO - my release has no burr of any kind that I can see.

It's as smooth as can be from what I can tell and I have used this type of release for as long as I have used this particular bow, which has been almost ten years now.

This would be the second season for this particular release and I haven't had any previous issues with it before.

I'll take it up the archery shop that did the work and see what they have to say about it.

'TOO' be continued...

Lol, I think you’re reading into what I’m saying a little far.

The amount of dedication/effort/time.

Mistake- something you skip/Fugg up on stand.

Stop- mistake/oh shit happened because you weren’t continuing this amount of dedication.

In simple words, I’d hate to see you fuck up because you stopped shooting 3 times a day until a deer walks in front of you a month later. Perfect practice makes perfect.

You are much easier to talk to in person! 😂

Gotchya!

I think the smacking I took in the face earlier 'f'ed me up a little bit tonight

Just so you know, this has been my routine for years when getting ready for archery season. Nothing has really changed for me.

Have a good evening.

Later!

I'm with Dave. Lots of guys practice a ton. Season comes in and they don't continue. Seems pointless.

Me? I'm not feeling it. Back was screwed for 2 weeks. Felt better last week so I started easing back into more physical work. Seemed okay. Friday it got tender for no reason. Scheduled chiropractor appointment. Sitting on ice bags again. This may end up being the year I steal my son's crossbow. Not a fan, but not above it. Cameras? Haven't really checked them much. I believe two are not working right. Brand new one sitting at the house in the package. I might put it out. Work is piling up. I suppose when I'm ready I'll get ready. Wash my stuff. Practice more. Doesn't look like I'll be replacing stands or adding new like I had intended although I did put one together.

Did manage to get peppered in poison ivy while working. Even if the back felt better I'm not sure shooting in this humidity with PI all over my arms and stomach would be inviting. I think my vag could be swollen too. Lol. I must be getting soft or something.

They put a loop on made of light material. That's the issue I'd guess. I don't even know the sizing of loop material but it does come in different grades. We use BCY that looks like what you have installed, but only use it with hinge style releases on our target bows. It will not hold up with use on a caliper release. The heavier, cheaper material that can be picked up at any Walmart works much better with a caliper. It looks like you're using a Truball. If so, I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the release- quality products.

I agree with Brock... That doesn't look like typical BCY d-loop cord. It looks softer, like string. Add to the fact your caliper release appears to have hard edges on top and bottom... It's easy to see how that could wear out the d-loop to the point of failure. Good thing it happened now instead while you're drawing back on a big ol buck! I'm sure that gave you quite the surprise!

You can tell by looking at the knots that this material is softer and thinner than standard braided d-loop cord. The good stuff is very stiff and durable, and stays round throughout the knots... not flat and cinched like this...

Appreciate the Intel fellas (y)

Yes,

it was a huge surprise when that 'SOB' broke.

My arrow flew 30 yards over the top of my intended target.

I ended up finding it approximately 70 yards back into the woods.

So you can say I'm happy that found my arrow, but still freaking pissed that it even happened to begin with.

I'll get it all straighten out tomorrow.

You can bet your bottom dollar on that.

Thanks again & you guys have a good night!

Talk to you later.

I know the feeling. First day I got my thumb trigger release I sent a half dozen arrows into the stratosphere due to bumping that damn trigger during the draw. That was an expensive day.

Nate came down Saturday to hang a new set. Any kind of North wind and it's go time for this spot. As usual, I let Nate do the easy work while I battled skeeters and trimmed shooting lanes. I got a text from him this morning whining about poison ivy or something. Pretty selfish if you ask me. I informed him I had a skeeter bite on the neck that night that itched like the dickens. I figure a little poison ivy is fair trade for not taking a chance of getting Zika or West Nile.

New spots of ivy are continuing to show up. Why the fugg does every perfect tree for a stand have poison ivy vines on it. Even after clearing them I still get it. Thanks Ryan for doing the grunt work, I'll handle the hard stuff next time bub...
