After shooting almost every day for about 5-6 weeks, I was forced to take a week off for family vacation to see my parents in Florida. Definitely didn't want to leave the sun, sand, and salt behind.

If you're ever around Bradenton/Sarasota, look up the Linger Lodge. Sketchy looking place with interesting decor, but damn good eats.

Grilled gator. Delicious.

My first grouping back after a week off...a little wild.

Grouping #2, felt like I was back to where I was a week earlier.

I went stumping/scouting again. It was a day of highs and lows. I found two good areas on public to hunt, and found stands in both. And a long ways from the road, which surprised me. This piece of public splits in essentially two sections, and the section with the best sign seems to be getting pounded with pressure. At this point, when I hunt it, I'll probably hunt the other side where I see very little human sign even though the deer sign isn't as good (but still good). I made a slightly high quartering away shot on this big cow log from about 20 yards. I was aiming for the light colored patch.

Then I spotted a big mature bull log, looked rotten enough. There was a small knot that seemed like the perfect aiming point. Made a great shot, but the big bull log got the last laugh.

I got home and decided to shoot a few more arrows and had this really good grouping at about 18 yards. 5 arrows.

I’d say your good to go w hunting with the trad bow. I’m truly jealous. To be honest, I’ve had a lot of stuff going on and haven’t even picked my girl up. Hopefully soon but it’s not a must at this point as training my dog is a must. I have time to start shooting again just haven’t dedicated the time to do it. Again awesome shooting and post, your inspiring me to get back in the game.

I went home at lunch today to shoot again. I had to reinforce the cheap foam block because good shots are now passing through, otherwise.

I don't know if it was the cold, or the wind, or the combination, but my groups weren't real tight. At least not starting out. I made some really sketchy shots at 30. I'm not as bothered by elevation misses (high/low) because at least my alignment and form must have been decent. These were bad L/R misses, one barely catching the target entirely. I shot a good group at 15 towards the end, then tried one more 10/15/20/25/30 group and ended on a good note. All 5 in the kill.

Lol. It's depressing how fast it can get away from you. A difference of 10 yds with a trad bow is like 30 or 40 yds with a compound.
I’d say 30 to 50 or 60 with today’s compound bow and arrow technology! Lol

Most of you guys here that are really serious and have been putting in the time practicing are shooting really great from 30 yards and in and IMO that is very impressive!👍🏻

I have no, absolutely no intentions of shooting at a whitetail with a trad bow at 30 yards. I am shooting that far because it does feel like it has a psychological benefit when it comes to a 20 yard shot. At least for me. I could count on one hand how many shots I took with a compound past 25 yards, I just didn't do it much. I think I only killed one deer past 30 with a compound. I'm hoping to keep it 20 and in with a recurve but I'll keep shooting at longer ranges for practice. It's amazing how long it takes the arrow to get there!

I didn't get much time to shoot yesterday before the sun went down, so I kicked on the outside lights on the back of the house and shot a few dozen arrows at about 10PM last night. I got it bad.

The family was at Great Wolf Lodge water park over the weekend. What fun. I found out there was a Cabela's not far away and have been wanting a 3D target for a while. They had a cheap 3D deer, so I threw it in the cart. My wife asked "will that fit in my car with all the luggage and stuff?" I shot back "Sure" without really thinking about it. It took some squeezing, but that box got in there.

I put some carbon into it when we got home.

I also found out, shooting from 30 yards when a shot went low, that the legs are made from plastic and not foam. It makes a different sound when an arrow hits there, and judging by the slight crack in that front leg, I shouldn't do that anymore.

Lol Creamer. Wish I would have known you would have been in my northern neck of the woods. Would have been nice to put a face with a name and my boys and I woulda jumped in the truck to walk around the Avon store.

You might be talking about the other Great Wolf Lodge. We were at the Cincinnati place. I think there's one up north, too.

That location is about 35 minutes from me...I would’ve met ya for a pool side beer.
As usual with that place, our room wasn't ready when we got there but everyone wanted to go to the pool. So, once we got the notice the room was ready, I got to run outside in wet swim trunks in 35 degree weather and bring in the luggage. I spent the rest of the day trying to get warm. I seriously had the room thermostat cranked to 80 for a while trying to get the chill out of me. I've gone soft. :(

Given all that was going on, I needed more beer than I had.
