What's good TOO?

Day did not go as planned. My daughter was hit it the mouth with a softball today at her game. 6hrs later I got to start my day. It was not very productive. I post in the TOO Good thread because I am thankful it was not worse. She is sore. She is on a liquid diet. They put a temporary splint on there. Somehow in the chaos, a lady appeared from the bleachers. She had been thru this with her son last year. They told her to push the teeth back in the sockets ASAP. It made sense to me in order to maintain a blood supply to the teeth and nerves and roots. I did so and had her bite down on a towel all the wah to the ER. The doctors and dentist said it was the best thing we could have done. Crossing our fingers and hoping there is no permenant damage. Just thankful she didn't take it in the temple or eye or suffer an injury which couldn't be repaired. Short term discomfort but praying for long term positives.

Hope all is well Phil, and pushing them back in is a good thing. Been down that rd myself

Thanks all. Like I said, I posted in the TOO good for a reason. It could have been a lot worse. Graci has been a trooper. She is at Sunday school right now while I am home cleaning up (checking in on TOO), and getting ready for my son's birthday party today. Her attitude has made me proud. Pretty tough little chicky!

Nice Dennis! Have fun and be safe.

Took Graci to the dentist for a check up. Teeth are still alive. No fractures in the teeth. Said typically the teeth will die. Another check up in 2 weeks and 4 weeks. Crossing our fingers, saying our prayers and hoping they are still alive in 4 weeks. Doctor said this is not typical but anything is possible. IF they happen to die, then he will have to do root canals on the teeth. Ugh. Hoping the root was not totally severed and I got them pushed back into the blood supply quick enough to deter any permanent damage.

How did I miss this. That has got to be real bummer and scary too on your daughters part, hope your quick thinking of pushing her teeth back up does the trick.

Dang phil, sorry to hear about that! Makes me cringe reading about that seeing I've kinda been in her position. I got my front tooth ripped out in second grade and it never came back in so had to get a fake put in. Hope everything goes well!

I never played baseball before only hockey but I couldn't imagine being infield or pitcher without wearing a mouth guard.

sorry to hear this phil, I hope gracie is OK and recovers quickly. coaching girls softball I see this almost happen all the time. I cringe alot out there.

Use me as an example. Tell them to spend the money on face masks. At least mouth guards. I know I had a black eyes or two, a bloody nose or two, and at least one chipped tooth when I was a kid from playing ball. I think they just ground my tooth smooth and put some enamel on it. It can happen easily.

A lot of the softball team's players around here, have to wear masks when playing infield. I think it is a good policy.

My daughter (9) plays in "A" league now. All the infielders now wear facemasks. I bought the best one I found at Dicks for about $ 50.00.

Peace of mind, since she plays short stop and some first base.

I require our first basemen wear a mouth piece even at the HS level. My two front teeth are fake and I've been through 4 root canals from busting my teeth out and knocking the caps off 7 times. It also caused the need for an oral surgery after a cyst developed in my jaw near the trauma site. Having your grill busted up sucks a fat one. In addition to protecting your Chiclets, a mouth piece gives you the confidence to keep your face in on the short hops you take a first. You get hit less if you focus on the ball all the way in the glove and that peace of mind that you at least won't lose teeth is often enough to stay down on the ball.

Glad to hear the good news Phil. Hope all goes well and she doesn't have too much of an issue with the teeth. I have only seen both front teeth knocked out once and that was a mess. Did the same as you did and the girl still has them but the roots did die and there is a slight discoloring to them but, that's a small price to pay when your looking at the alternative of not having them at all.

My youngest daughter has played softball since she was 4. She has never lost a tooth knock on wood but she did break her leg sliding into home once. We told her she had to have the mouth guard in and if she didn't have that in she has to have the mask on. She normally plays 1st or 3rd base and I know just how fast a ball can be sent down the baseline or pitcher mound at you lol. Been more then a few times I was lucky enough to duck. Only got clocked in the mouth once when I played but that was enough lol.
