Bikes are a good way to get started but jogging is where it's at for building up endurance...

I disagree. I feel if one truly pushes themselves, greater endurance and recovery can be built through cycling.

When I used to be quite active, I did some biathlons. Bikers could always manage the run better than runners could manage the bike portion.

I don't see how that is. I never stopped pedaling the whole 6.5 miles, and had the bike in the lowest gear. Took 2 breaks at 20 seconds a piece for pictures. I'm looking for leg strength more than anything, and I need to drop 10-15 pounds.

Running keeps the same resistance throughout the whole run, bikes like treadmills just can't duplicate...

Seen it way too many times over my years of running... People running and biking multiple miles but when the shoe meets the ground they don't have the endurance...

Run 3 miles on a treadmill then a day or so later do it out on the road... You'll see the difference....

Not to crap on anyone's parade but if you want leg development nothing beats weight training. I'm not a big proponent of steady state cardio training. I prefer short quick bursts like sprints or sled drags for fat loss and muscle development.

I also climb up and down a 10 foot ladder at least 50 times a day at work, hell that's gotta be good for something lol

For sure it is. The problem is if you want your body to change you have to introduce variation. The body adapts very well so the only way to make it change is to vary your training. IE in weight training u either add weight or reps if you want to grow.

What if I switch gears on the bike? ;)

That could work. Also riding different routes would be good also. Trying to find progressively more difficult routes would be good too. You have to keep making things more difficult or you will stop making progress. However every few weeks I would take an easy week so u can recover.

Baby steps, man. I use to lift alot back in the day. I'm not looking to be the next Arnold Schwarzenegger, just trying to get healthier.
