Spent the weekend down at my Dads house. We went fishing for Catfish at his Aunts house, used rancid chicken breast soaked in Strawberry Kool Aid. He thought I was crazy, but it worked. We ended up catching 6 good sized cats. He was using a couple of really old Zebco reels which ended up tangling like crazy. So I convinced him that it was time to get a new reel. Went to Bass Pro and he bought a 7' Medium Heavy Ugly Stik. Friday we went back out and didn't catch a damn thing. Didn't matter, we enjoyed our time together. Beautiful weather all weekend. Saturday we chilled at his place and smoked some ribs. Sunday he was a little emotional when I left. Dad wasn't around for quite a while when I was a kid, a decision I know he regrets. We are trying our best to make up for it now.
This is the cove we fished from all afternoon Thursday and a few more hours Friday.
Here is Dads first fish.
Heres me and the old man.
Went to the other side of the lake Friday afternoon.
Had a few visitors. 3 Fawns came running out of the woods, followed by mama. She stopped, starred and turned back.
Time for some Ribs and Sausage fatties.
Dad disappeared when I was about 8, decided to show back up when I was around 18 and heading for Basic. He then did it again when I was 21, showed back up when I was 31. He missed out on a lot to say the least. He is a simple man and likes things a certain way. We not only look a lot alike, but we enjoy a lot of the same things. Beer, fishing, country music and IU basketball. This was a great weekend for the both of us. I think Ive taught him more things than he has ever taught me to be honest. I had to teach him how to use an open faced reel lol. That was fun too. Its going to take some more practice, but he will get it. I don't think he goes fishing unless Im with him.
