Woke up at 5AM this morning and grabbed a good hot shower, that was good. Headed to the farm this morning to hunt for a couple of hours and got skunked. It was still a cool morning with the HEAVY dew and the fog. I climbed down at 9:30 when the wind picked and checked the cams. Cams have a way of kicking you in the nuts. Last Thursday, I bailed on the farm and hunted behind my parents. Boss chased does all over the bottom during shooting light. With the high winds and the first day of youth season, I would have never imagined a completely dead area of our farm would suddenly turn hot. Dang...

To make matters worse, I have pics of the same guy who trespassed on Hippie Ridge riding down in our bottom where Boss was chasing does on Sunday at 9:30AM. He better enjoy his Thanksgiving because I'll be on the war path tomorrow...

Some good news is Jack survived youth season. The bad news is, not Moe since November 4th. I'll be knocking on doors tomorrow tracking down my trespasser this weekend, so I might determine his fate before long...

Not going to let any of the bad ruin the good. This is a great time of year regardless of the hell my deer season is in. Headed to my parents for food, fellowship, and football. Life could be way worse...

stuffed with apples and onions, injected with beer and melted butter, basted with chicken stock and apple cider, in the smoker for 8 hours.

Looks almost as good as when I cooked my spring turkey.

Did some digging in to two different properties today and was surprised to see what I found. One is the little old lady across from my house. I thought she only owned a couple acres and it turns out she owns 16. I butts up against a doctor is has a couple hundred acres he is managing for deer. I see does over there ALL the time as I'm sure no one has hunted it in ages. With the amount of development around, there are lots of small pockets of ground like this one that holds deer. There is currently a 7-8 doe family group using her place and I have a feeling the backside of it will be loaded with buck sign if I can get in there. I'm hoping to speak with her tonight about bowhunting over there...

The second piece is some waterfowling ground. I had no idea the owner of this lake (within 150 yards of the Ohio River) also had 1,000' of river frontage. I have no idea what to expect from this place, but it seems like solid ground. Got my fingers crossed that the owners are alright with some waterfowling!!!

Took my son out for his first deer hunt. We got a ground blind set up about 15 yards from a good trail that the deer use to enter the cut corn field. We didn't see anything, but had fun nonetheless... Pretty entertaining afternoon really.

Thanks guys.. I told my wife there was a grand total of 5 seconds of silence in the blind yesterday. Even when he's regulated to whispering.... that boy can talk!!!

Glad to see he's still getting use out of that skull cap!!!

Yeah Jesse, he loves that hat!!

Had a great weekend and it sure sucks that it is Monday! The wife was out of town Friday night, so I enjoyed several Yuenglings while I watched all of Season 8 of House. Got up Saturday and went to check cams (only buck I know that made it was Captain Jack) before heading to my uncles to shoot trap. We had 9 guys shooting for 4 hours, blasting out over 800 rounds. Hung out at Flutemans Bar and Grill that night, then spent yesterday with family and scouting for next weekend. Had a great dinner with the wife last night to cap off the weekend. I sure do love the weekend!!!

Thats good stuff Curran, he will remember that for a long time and so will you. there is no such thing as silence no matter what you take with them to keep them busy, but they think they are being super stelth mode...lol

Tonight, after dinner my 4 year old daughter holds up a picture of a menorah, continues to say, “Today at school I learned about Monica.” My son seeing the picture and being 2 years the wiser, quickly corrects her, “You mean Hanukkah?” She smiles and shrugs, “Oh yeah, Hanukkah, I learned about Hanukkah, not Monica.”

Basement finishing project starts today! My BIL will be starting to frame things in today, wood and drywall were delivered last week. Can't wait to see how it turns out. This will about another 1500 sq ft. to the house, including a full bath, wet bar, training room, and theater room.
