Birds were fired up good here . Heard a bunch of gobbles from at least 4 groups of toms/Jakes . Pretty amazing . Swung into the spot I listened yesterday and it was silent . I think the birds had already flown down by then tho , and if they were roosted at the same place as yesterday it would have been difficult to hear em on the ground from where I was

First time out listening this morning. I heard 3 different gobblers. Of course the are roosted in tough spots to hunt, but on property I can hunt so I'm not complaining.

Listened at the same spot I heard 6 on tues, and they weren't in there. They are roosted along a field I can hunt, but I can't hunt the woods they're actually in. Pretty sure they are pitching into the field I can hunt , but it'd be tough to get set up on em , unless ya go in while its dark.. We'll see how it goes, if nothing else I'm getting my body ready to wake up a little earlier than I do for work.

Get in there in the dark and find him. Walk around and look up. We like to be set up 60 yards off the bird with deeks out and ready to go by 6 AM at the latest. Which typically means rolling out of bed around 4:15 or 4:30.

Yeah , it ought to work good . I'll probably try and roost em the night before I hunt this spot . I don't mind getting up early at all ....This spot would be tough to skyline em since there roosting in a deep valley . Not saying it couldn't be done ....just be difficult to get below , spot em , then quietly get around em to set up on the field side .

My favorite thing in the world is when I walk in thinking I got the bird dead to rights, sneak into the roost zone, locate the infamous "blob" in the tree, setup and get hunkered in....then day break comes and I find out I setup on a squirrels nest and the bird was like another 80-100 yards away. Really gives me a good self reflection and the ability to laugh at myself.

Ha!! Or it's a hen. That's happened to us. We've figured out that when he roost gobbles that first time you still have maybe 5 minutes to make a move on him though. You can't get as close as you can in the dark, but you can get close enough to set out deeks that he can see once it's light out.

Depending on the bird and his mood that window sometimes is upwards of 30 minutes as I have had birds gobble when its pitch black but yes I have "made the sneak" quite a few times in my days. Few times his posse of hens were between me and him and I didn't know and got busted but most of the time it is effective to move. I personally have become a light packer so my typical strategy is I have most of their fly down zones patterned that I just adjust setup in the normal zone and sit and wait. I don't call, use decoys, or anything....probably anti climatic for most but has been an effective strategy for killing the "boss gobbler" for me. If he flies down in the zone he is dead in 30 seconds of hitting the ground, if he goes the other way I sit patiently let him get way out of sight then back out without him having a clue. The more you play the wiser he gets and will move roost sites....just my experience though but has gotten me quite a stash of 1.25"+ spur birds and a decent rope collection.

Was scouting that spot I mentioned before after I got off work . Birds had a couple dusting bowls on the edge of the field so they appear to be heading that way .
But the highlight was finding this . Is it a sign of luck to come ?

Nice one! Nostalgic to think an indian was hunting the very same place you are, only thousands of years ago. He may have been chasing a nice tom too.

Birds have been gobbling good. More birds than normal down here. We took Parker yesterday. He had the safety off but didn't get to pull the trigger.

Birds gobbled hard yesterday, took Josh out and had 7 come in and he got one.
The rest scattered and as we sat on the hilside about 10 minutes later they started gobbling again and were stillat it when we left.
Seems to be a good flock of birds this yr and lots of Jakes also.

Watched the birds fly up tonight that I watched strut this morning , and several times this week . We'll see how it goes tomorrow . Hopefully don't get docked by other hunters tomorrow . Figured we'd try and get one killed here and save the other birds that won't get messed with as much till later .
