10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 12, 2022: '@THEOTHERFARM':

First, 'SHYBUC' did shed his velvet over the weekend. I attached the first captured image of him with his new hard antlers in the previous post.
___________________________________________________

The last time I visited the other farm was on the 2nd. I've stretched it out a couple more days since mid-August to where I make the trip now every two weeks, 14 days, so I hope to make the trip again this coming weekend, but I may have to go sooner because the battery life for the Tactacam Cellcam is running pretty low and IDK if it'll make it until then.

Anyhow, I should have some real good video clips off that SD card pull, such as the Bobcat that's been showing up lately and some good bucks, which I believe one of them is the buck that I first posted within the 2022 velvet thread.

Here are some of the latest from this morning as an example of what's been showing up this past week.

On a different note:

I'll be flying down to Florida for some alligator hunts next week. My youngest brother, Russ, just received his two gator permits the other day.

I'll document as much as I can and share whatever I have with you all when I get back.

7:30AM, Tues., Sept. 27, 2022: 'BACK IN DEER COUNTRY'

Arrived home from Florida yesterday and this morning I drove to our local carryout for some hot coffee. Below are just a few of the local deer that I woke up out of their beds in our field while pulling out of our driveway.

20220927_072540.jpg

I have much to do to catchup around the house and for my deer season. I'll try to keep this journal updated as best as I can going forward. I have no plans of hunting until later on towards the end of the month of October. In the meantime, I have deer feed stations and trail cameras to tend to this week.

The gator/fishing trip last week was an absolute blast and I was able to bring home lots of awesome Florida meat on the flight. I have tons of video documentation more over than photographs that I have to go through first before I share anymore. I'll work on all of that this week.

At this time, I can say that I hooked into the largest gator of the many that we encountered, twice, but we were unsuccessful in getting it into the boat. Estimated size of that gator, approximately 12-14', it was absolute monster!

Discovered this Seahorse stuck in the sandbar while morning fishing and I helped it get back into the water before it baked in the daytime sun.

Our last night of the gator trip before we left the wildlife refuge to go do sea fishing the rest of the week.

Attached is the last sunset before I left for home the very next morning.

Final note:

Hurricane 'IAN' is in the direct path of Russ' home. He is running around today helping family, friends and neighbors that need it.

Prayers are in order for all West Coast Floridians, thanks!

Yup, there's a number of us that are talking about making a run to the effected areas next weekend to cut and do who we can to help.

My buddy is the chief armor for the Hillsborough Sheriff's office and just got out the hospital from. Complications with his lungs from a Marine Recon accident. Lots of elderly around there as well.

Sounds like a great trip.

11:00AM, Thursday, Spet. 29, 2022: '@theotherfarm Update'

I have not been out hunting as of yet this season and won't be until the last week of October. I have no intensions of harvesting any deer inside my county this hunting season because of the EHD outbreak that recently occurred earlier this year. I will however try to harvest the max bag limit (3) in a different country, which is at the other farm. That farm can handle the reduction do to the deer herd size, Plenty of healthy deer at that location.

My youngest brother Russ, plans on deer hunting with me this season. My goal is to help him harvest one of the two bucks that I've been taking care of over the past three years. If he's successful, which I'm confident that he will be, it will be his first big Ohio buck vertical bow harvest in his life. This will be my most primary goal this season, which is to help him get on those deer and hopefully be able to take some fresh venison back home with him to Florida.

I still have plenty of work to catch up on here at home. preparing for the cooler seasons, so, I'll try to share as much as I can of what's been happening over the past week when I was away on vacation. Yesterday, I swapped TC SD cards right here at home and today I will be going through all of that data, which is a lot. If anything significate occurred during that time of last week right here at home, then you can expect another quick update.

Video description:

The day before I left for my Florida vacation on the 19th, I pulled trail camera SD cards, and replenished feed stations at all locations. Yesterday was the first time I had time to go through all the data from the other farm. This video contains some of the highlights from the other farm, such as a Bobcat, a few good bucks, plus a late bloomer buck that was still in velvet as of 9/18. Today, I am going through the rest of the trail cameras' data from the other locations nearest to my home, which is inside a different county than the other farm. This coming weekend, I'll be swapping trail camera SD cards once again at the other farm to see what occurred while I was away on vacation. I'll share whatever relevant information from those pulls in a future video. I have not been out hunting as of yet this season and I won't be until towards the end of the month of October, the last week. At that time, I will be self-filming most all my hunts and share them with you all afterwards.

Have you seen a reduction in deer in your area Denny? Found EHD deer on your place?

Yes, a third are completely missing, the most mature. I have not come across any dead deer yet because I've stayed completely out of the woods all spring and summer long. I expect to find remains once I make my way out to my hunting locations next week.

Another note:

I just got off the phone with my brother Russ down in Port Charlotte, FL. He now plans on coming up earlier because of the storm devastation in his area. He's cleaning up now at his home and neighborhood. He told me that he'll be at my place on the 5th, so, it appears that I'll be hunting sooner than what I was originally planning on.

8:30PM, Saturday, October 1, 2022: 'ON THE ROAD AGAIN'

Just got off the phone with my brother. He's now on the road headed North in his van-camper as I type. He says he'll be here on the 5th, ready for some Whitetail Deer hunts, so, this is definitely good news. He's gonna take his time getting here, stopping along the way to see other family & friends. I still have plenty to do to get ready so, I'll be super busy until he arrives.

I'm really looking forward to this year's deer season, and this will be the very first time us boys ever hunted deer together. Should be lots of fun and plenty of laughs along the way.

The following is the last texted message just before he called me a little bit ago.

9:00AM, Thursday, October 6, 2022: 'LET THE GAMES BEGIN'

My youngest brother, Russ, arrived last night at our place and we both didn't get to bed until after 2AM.

Russ

20221005_212453.jpg

Last night was also our trash night, so around 2AM, I hauled all the trash out to the end of the driveway and while doing so, I took a slew of photos of the beautiful moon and stars. All the lights were turned off on the entire property all evening, just so there wasn't any light pollution to obstruct what could be observed above our heads.

Last photo of the night while sitting at the picnic table just before going to bed, looking to the Northwest.

I have an action pack busy day for the both of us today, getting fully prepared for my first hunt of the season and Russ's very first archery hunt ever.

Friday, tomorrow, is when we'll get out hunting for sure. I expect the deer activity to increase when the cool weather front gets here.

So, I'll try to capture/document as much as I can of our first outdoor Whitetail Deer hunting adventure as brothers, ever!

Wish us luck, thanks!

5:00PM, Thursday, October 6, 2022: 'PREP DAY'

I put Russ to work today because I sustained a significate upper body injury a week ago that might prevent me from archery hunting over the next few weeks. We'll see what happens, and I'll share details regarding my situation @strouds, campfire story worthy.

20221006_123058.jpg

Okay, I gave Russ the lowdown and grand tour of the areas of intended hunting setups for the next couple of days. I had him help me tend to all feed-stations while trying to get him up to speed on what to expect over the next few days.

Russ is now on his way to purchase his brand new archery equipment, something that he fell in love with when I stopped at the archery shop on the way home to grab a couple of miscellaneous items. He just left the house in my pickup to go pick it up. When he gets here later, I'll share photographs of it, it's a real beauty!

@theotherfarm, I pulled the automatic programmable corn feeder because of all the fruit trees in the area are definitely producing.

The following are some snapshots of today's prep work for this weekend's deer hunts and a few others while traveling.

Like I said, once Russ gets back in about two hours, I'll share what he'll be hunting with tomorrow, and this weekend. It's pretty damn cool!

Oh, snap! It just got real with that new toy!!!😳😳😳👍🏻

Just sent him off to bed. He's all set for tomorrow.

I expect him to have a deer shot by no later than 8:30AM. If by chance it doesn't have antlers, then he'll be back out for an evening hunt, but most likely at a different setup.

He's all jacked up over it, to say the least. Very excited, that is why I sent him off to bed with a six-pak in him already, and plenty of heavy good wholesome home cook food as well. He'll sleep hopefully like a baby tonight. I'll be getting him up at 5:30AM at the very latest. By that time, I should have a couple of cups of hot coffee in me already.

I will not be going out with him tomorrow. If I can pull my bow back later in the day, I may try to get out with him on Saturday, if need be, but first we'll have to see how things playout after tomorrow's hunts of his.

Honestly, I already can't wait to get that text, or call from the stand, regardless what he shot.

I still have plenty of things to do tonight to keep this whole adventure thing going smoothly, which is no biggie at all because my primary goal for this year was to get Russ totally hooked into archery for life and for him to harvest more deer of his own into the future.

Have a good one, Dave!
