Work Commute?

Well it seems it's not typical for people to have a 10-15 min commute like me. I've been asking friends too and they all average round 30-45 min for commuting.

In your opinion would you move an hour away from work to have hunting more convenient to you? And be in a town that's more you than a city.

Just took time to measure my commute. Eleven steps from my bed to my office chair. I received my first pension check on December 1st. My wife retires on February 28th. From that day forward we will be full time pickers selling on eBay.

I drive 56 miles one way to hunt my property. We had hoped to move to Carroll county, but decided to stay put for now.

I couldn't live in a city. Absolutely couldn't. Hell, I don't even like Newark. I like my 5 acres in the middle of nowhere, basically.
 
About 20 minutes to and from work. One hunting spot is 20 minutes and the other is over an hour.

45-55mins depending on 480 traffic.

You will never find me living in a city! I am ready to find some land in the country, put up my 60x100 pole barn with a 2 story house in the rear. My wife and I lived in a 40x60 pole barn in a 1 bedroom efficiency during our senior year at OU and I was in complete heaven. I would much rather drive to work everyday, have some time to unwind, then have to drive 20-45mins to my hunting location. I say this because I spend more time in the woods than just during hunting season. All of your prep, etc. would be come a pain in the rear. Work is already a pain in the rear, might as well have you hunting grounds close. Only bad thing is when time change comes, no more hunting in the afternoons.....

Post framed houses can be really awesome, I don't know why more people don't do them.

I agree with the unwinding. When I get 58 miles one way (60 minutes to 1.5 hrs), I loved it in the morning but hated it in the afternoons Gave me a chance to wake up and enjoy my coffee but on the way home I felt like I was still working

was that the red pole barn that is near Strouds? I know a guy used to rent that one out, I actually was going to rent it last year I think.

No, this was out by Shade on Pleasanton Rd. Diablo knows exactly which one, small world and I miss it down there like no tomorrow!!
 
Yes I do lol!

I drive 1 mile to get into a company truck. Then depending on which job we head to 45 min to 1.5 hours one way. Leave at 6 home at 7:30. 4 day week makes it very nice.
 
1 hour to and from work, not bad right. Do the math. 47 miles one way, 21 mpg. 4.5 gallons a day. 90 gallons a month. 24,000 miles a year. 40 hours a month in a car. 12 work weeks a year driving to and from work. 3 work months a year of unpaid driving time.
 
im about 12 minutes from work i live in the country. and dont have to go far to hunt ive got property right behind the house and property right acrossed the street. my farthest drive to a property that i hunt is 40 minutes. i guess im kinda lucky i dont have too drive as far as some of you guys for work. my uncle works for a construction company and has driven too kentucky for almost a year now. 3 hours one way.he use to drive home everyday but he quit that when he caught himself falling asleep at the wheel.
 
I've got a 40 minute commute for work, and would drive further if I could find the right chunk of land to buy. Get outta town and closer to your hunting property!
