Curious on everyone's take. I've never seen it on deer but have on beef, but not this strong. Would you eat?

Bearded butchers just turned one into dog food, I was surprised.

I've seen one that the fat was almost as bright as Mt Dew...we threw it out. I've had some corn fed ones where the fat was distinctly more yellow on my Ashland county deer than my Belmont/Harrison County Deer but I don't remember it ever being "that" yellow. I'd have to look at the deer and the smell and how its been treated since the bullet/arrow/bolt was sent at the animal before I trashed it. But it wouldn't be out of the question in my world.

Ive seen that too and have not had a problem eating those. It did make me think ofa better description.

Slimy fat is bad. Chalky is good.

You posted a pic after u peeled it right? Just for reference. After goggle review I'd trust my nose, seems miscolored fat is very common. I do believe Ive cleaned and kept a buck that had some yellower fat not greenish or Mountain dew just darker yellow......I tossed one out that had one of those big abceces on the front of his chest. Darker red blood nasty shit spewed out after picking with a knife. The rest of him may have been completely healthy but after smelling that stuff and my wife said she wasn't eating it I was fine feeding it to nature.

This isn't mine, and go with clean gut job/kept cool/no smell/no disease or injury seen in the animal. Only thing I know of outside of those being off, is its diet....grass vs grain in beef.

A doe I shot years ago had 4-5 softball sized lumps on her. When I stuck my knife in one a yellow puss that same color came out. Come to find out the farmer that leased the place shoots deer with a 22 so they run off and don't die in the field. The whole deer was full of infection.

I am not sure about the color but the doe I shot in Pennsylvania had more fat than I have ever seen on a deer. My father-in-law was in awe. (Comparing my 15-16 years experience to his 50-60). Asked around to some other guys with experience and they said it's a sign of a brutal winter incoming. As of now I'd venture to say they're correct.

In other words, stress — be it from an intense, prolonged rutting season or from the onset of harsh winter weather — along with nutritional deficiencies will cause a deer's fat reserves to switch from ivory-white to phlegm-yellow in short order. So … is it OK to eat this deer? Absolutely.
