Well I checked on my plot in paradise tonight and it looks like crap. Not sure what went wrong as it has grown well in the past...

The good news is I found several white oaks that are dropping and that's the first of those for me this fall. My food plot is a little different than I intended...

Finally finished my chair for the platform blind tonight as well. I needed a taller seat, so I improvised. It's comfy as hell!!!

I'm heading out to the farm this weekend to implement a new tactic for this fall in hopes of experiencing some new excitement. The plot below sits in out creek bottom below standing corn to the north and thick bedding to the south. There are no trees to scrape under along the entire length of our bottom, so I'll be "transplanting" a tree to the edge of this plot to act as a scrape tree. I have no idea how well it will work, but I figured it was worth a try. I'll snap some pics of the set up once I'm done with it...

Food plots look great!!!

I also added my scrape tree to the bigger plot. It'll be a 27 yard quartered away shot if I get a chance to kill a deer over it. Here's the before...

And after...

I doctored it up with some Smokey's Preorbital Gland Lure and plan to try a scrape dripper here for the first time in mid-October. The cams didn't reveal much this time around other than a hard horned Captain Jack using Hippie Ridge for the first time all year. I moved 4 of my 6 cams to new locations and plan to leave them until opening weekend. At this point, I have nothing left to do but shoot and prep gear!!!

I received some disturbing information last night and while I will have no way to substantiate what I was told, I have little doubt it is partly, if not completely true. According to the neighbor at our farm, the punk up the road who I have had issues with before and who is the one who ended up with Deuce's rack, was running with the kid who was poaching deer last summer and fall. Both kids were killing dozens of deer illegally and selling the antlers by the pound to a local buyer. There were deer with 5-6" bases found with the antlers simply sawed off at the base. As luck would have it, the little asshole that lives by our farm has grandparents with a 10 acre field less than a few hundred yards from where Moe spent the majority of his time. Supposedly the kid was also baiting heavily on the edge of this field and that he knew of Moe. Although he has never told anyone he killed the deer, I can't help but think he met his demise while feeding on corn and the hand of a rifle bullet. For a deer to spend 14 straight months of his life on our farm and then to vanish without a trace, to never return, I no longer have any doubts about what happened to him.

RIP Moe. It was a good run brother. I may never hunt a more unique and photogenic deer!

What ever happened to CR?

No clue. I didn't hunt out there much after that happened and haven't been running cameras out there this year. There was that deer killed last year that looked just like him, but it was killed 8-10 miles away and I have no idea how a deer with a bum leg would travel that far...

Hopefully that poaching crap has mellowed out and things can return to normal after the next few years.

Dozer and Jack look real good man, I wouldn't hesitate to put an arrow through them. Hope you get your chance!

Re-reading your post, did these boys get caught by the DNR or turned in??

No. I left 3 messages for our county GW and could have hand delivered the one kid to him as I had enough evidence to prove at least 2-3 charges and yet, he never bothered to call me back. My cousin used to be buddies with the kid and I but the fear in him via that channel. Simply put, I told him if he didn't knock it off, I'd see to it that he wasn't able to shoot a gun for a while. Rumor has it that they did get a visit from the DNR, but I don't know how true that is...
