I knew that I would only get to hunt this weekend and (hopefully) next and then have to sit out for a few weeks. What I didn't plan on was waking up yesterday morning to a dog with a clogged milk duct. There went my hunting for this weekend.
Anyway, my kids knew I was disappointed over not being able to go. My oldest daughter and her husband went out tonight as well as my son and his friend.
They all stopped by to tell me about their hunts in person, which was great!
This was Eric's (my youngest son) first time crossbow hunting and he shot at a doe but missed. The great part was his excitement. He said it didn't even matter that he missed, that it was cool as hell to even take a shot! I can see he's now hooked for life!
Then, listening to my daughter explain to him why he missed was pretty cool too. Guess he put a 20 yard pin on an 8 yard shot, so she was explaining that he had to adjust his aim and shot over the doe's back.
My son in law also shot, but missed and Eric's friend did shoot a doe. They all stopped by while waiting to track it. I haven't heard back yet, so I guess they are still looking for it.
Anyway, if I couldn't hunt, seeing their faces and hearing the excitement in their voices was almost as good and I'm tickled to death.
My dog is now way better and there's always next weekend. I also got a batch of deer meat pressure canned, (and survived~) but estimated the meat wrong, so will be doing another batch early in the morning since it is already cut up.
