Bumped a nice one on my way in at 4:30. He never spooked too bad just walked off slow and couldn't pin point what is was. This is a small piece of ground and I am willing to bet I will see him again. 10 point 20" wide low 130. Not much mass.

Getting in a little late. Sitting a set I purposely hung just for rattling. First time ever sitting here. It is super thick.

Got picture but it won't let me load them.

Had three does come through about 30 min ago. Two big nannys and a yearling. Waiting for the horns that should be following them. The one nanny hung around like 10-15 after the others left. Could have shot her 100 times. She absolutely wanted to know where that smoke smell was coming from. She was all around me looking everywhere like she lost something. She eventually gave up and went on. Without smoke it would have been over. You can never be scent free no matter how careful or hard you try. She was downwind forever no doubt she would have got me spending that much time and trying so hard if it wasn't for smoke.

Just spent 10-15 minutes with this little basket 8. He was looking around under my tree for a good while, came in to a grunt, maybe after rattling that was about 10 minutes earlier.

I don't know why it wouldn't let me load pics earlier, bit anyeays. Here is a look to the east from my set. Keep in mind I am only about ten feet off the ground here.

North

West

South

This is just a pasture or old crp field that had been left go. If anything wanted to see what was making the noise they would have to be 10-20yds.

Adam and I got back out around 4:30. Found the arrow, Nothing but pink fat and some white hair. definitely gut by the smell of it. Couldn't find blood in the area of the shot so we went to where she went into the thicket. this is a prime doe bedding area and it was criss crossed with trails. We decided to pick a trail each and if we didn't find blood on that one, try another. It was so thick in there that once we got more than 15 yards apart we couldn't see each other any more.

So here we were. In a primary bedding area, with other hunters on surrounding properties, trying to push through this brush without bumping all the deer out into the shooting lanes of the other guys. Adam also had a neat encounter with a good buck that was bedded in there. (that's his story to tell though). We realized that if we pushed to hard, we were gonna screw up a really good spot. So we called it.

It sucks, I've lost deer before and it is always a tough pill to swallow, but it is what it is. I will be back at it next week, possibly in that same spot to try and kill the buck Adam had at 10 yards tonight.

So as Dante said, I had a cool encounter this evening while looking for his doe. As I was walking this thicket from deer bed to deer bed looking for blood I hear a bunch of leafs being scratched or pawed. Couldn't tell what it was making the noise since it was so thick in there. I then seen a glimpse of antlers thru the brush. Hole cow, there is a buck not 30 yards from me. Must have been making a scrape under the tree and then raised his head to hit the licking branch when I caught his movement. I then hear a long stream of urin hitting the ground with a couple farts tossed in too lmao. Almost started busting out laughing but I held it together. He then walked over to a sapling and started thrashing the heck out of it. He continued to walk to my right and started walking down the old fence row. He made a slight turn when he was even with me and started walking right toward me and thought to myself, "self, he is going to walk right up on you " lmao. I get the phone up and started hitting some pics(still need to look on the computer to see if I got him or not, was trying not to spook him) He finally at 10 yards looked and seen something he wasn't sure of so he bounded off but didn't go far. He circled down about 30 yards past me and started walking right back to where he was when he spooked after I mouth grunted at him lol. I texted Dave and told him " I think this buck likes me" lol. I started walking off the other way since I didn't want him to get close enough to actually see me. Smelling scent is one thing but when they actually see you is a different story on weather they will ever return to that spot or not. Was pretty cool to see all that and hear him grunt just before he would start walking making a scrape, and a rub. Not something you see/hear everyday and get to be that close without them picking you off and running to the next county.

Mason and I had an awesome hunt tonight. Over 45 minutes of video of does and fawns under us, we saw a coyote too, but couldn't get a shot. I felt all week that Mason would kill tonight, and he probably would have killed a nice 8 if he hadn't decided to stand up again at the worst possible time...he did that down at Strouds too....one day he'll learn. Dang kids. Great hunt and I can't wait to do it again!

That looks pretty close to the one I seen Dave. If it wasn't that one it was one about the same size. Dang phone pic didn't come out very well with it being as thick as it was and not being able to zoom in to take the pic. Didn't show him as good but here he is.
