Good question Hoyt.

Sadly, I had everything lined up to hunt this morning and failed to make it out. Sometimes my body just flips me the bird. Been hitting it really hard and I couldn't get out of bed. Time to clean this house top to bottom and earn some brownie points with momma while she is at work today.

Good luck, Dante! I slept late, did a few chores, smoked our gear and am planning on having to gut one for Mason tonight. Our woods has been stone dead all morning, things are just starting to wiggle about, breeze is picking up just slightly. It seems to me when its dead calm, animals don't move as much. Hope they do this afternoon!

4 doe and a 5 point for the morning sit.... Didn't start moving till 9 and then was steady for an hour and a half..... The 5 point made the rounds 3 different times and could of been shot all three times.... The doe all stayed in the thick stuff with only one offering me a shot....

The 5 points nose was too the ground the majority of the time and would occasionally look up and scan the swamp too see f anything was moving.... Cheap entertainment for the morning lol... Winds picking up again gusting too 16 so not sure if I'm heading out later or not.... We'll see....

Checked a cam by this new stand on the way out. Found what's been making the rubs

Some angles he looks smaller than the one I passed opening day. Other angles he looks bigger. I have three 10 second videos and in none of them does he look right at the cam.

Looks like I wasn't the only one with aggressive squirrels...had one 5 feet away at eye level last night just like Joe's picture and than he climbed up again to the same perch today.

Game day decision then????

The vids were at 4:30 am. He came from the direction of my stands. I've hunted it twice now and seen one scrub. The scrub is the only other buck on that cam but he visits more frequently. However in one vid they were together. Maybe by next weekend I'll have better pics to judge him.

Here's the deal, She came through around 10:00. She was the sixth doe I had seen and the first to be withing range. I was at draw when she stepped into my lane at 25 yards. I was just about to bleat to stop her when she stopped on her own. I anchored and put my 20 yard pin right behind her shoulder. Just as I touched the release she took another step. the shot hit back, Marginal from liver to gut, no way I got vitals. She jumped and took off, tail tucked, and headed into some brush about 60 - 70 yards from the shot. I heard her go in but nothing after that.

I waited about 45 minutes to climb down. I could see the lighted nock from the tree but couldn't find it when I was on the ground. the sun had this area lit up pretty good and I couldn't see the light. I looked in about a 10 foot area for a bit, but didn't want to make a lot of commotion. I had trick or treating with my granddaughter today, so I backed out and never approached the area she entered the brush.

Adam is going back out with me in a little while to see if we can at least find the arrow, and make a determination if we should approach the brush or just wait a while longer.
I can't miss work tomorrow, but I am willing to spend some time out there tonight if it looks like I might have caught liver.

Was the entry back or was it the exit?

Both. She was perfectly broadside. the entrance is about halfway from back to belly, the exit should be closer to the belly. Like i said, it looked marginal for a liver / gut shot

Correct me if I'm wrong but most gut shot deer hunker up before taking off run a short distance and stop or walk slow.... I'd say you probably hit more liver then anything..... Just by the way she acted after the hit....

I think I'll plan on getting a pair of those next year...every trip to your garage is expensive, but hey, it's all for a good deal!
