Picked up some Kent 2s (1500fps) today and just patterned them against the Remington HyperSteel 1700fps. Uh, no wonder my kill numbers suck. The Kent threw 3 times the pellets on target at 40 yards that the Remington did at 25. I'd let someone shoot me with the Remington at 25 if I had Carharts on. The Kent knocked the pizza box over at 25 yards. And it's cheaper!

I have no doubts the Kent is a superior load to the Remington now!

Glad you discovered a load that works man. Kent shells are hard to beat. I'm not a fan of Remington steel loads, but I've had really poor results from all the high velocity loads. Even Kent's 1625 fps loads pattern like shit from my gun... And its a common result among my buddies' guns too. For some reason those hot loads just blow up the pattern from most gun/choke combos. Its merely marketing hype... Guys think fast means more deadly.

Kent makes a great load . I got some 3.5" Kent #1s the other day to supplement my Hevi metal supply . I've had the same results as Jim with high speed loads . The 1500 ish fps loads pattern well but 1600 and up blow apart.

I've never had any luck with the High velocity steel loads out of either of my guns. Kent makes a great product at a good price. I think all the wad stripping chokes like the kicks and PM do best with 1300-1500 fps shells.

My thoughts exactly. That 1300-1550 range seems to be the sweet spot for my gun/choke. Another thing I've noticed is that my kicks HF full doesn't like large shot like 1s and BBs either... They tend to blow out like the high velocity loads. I'm sure they'd pattern better through a mod choke, but I'm not concerned. I've had absolutely no issues killing ducks and geese alike with 2s and 3s... Especially with the hevi metal.

Holdren picked me up some Hevi-Metal when he was down in KY, so I'll get to try those out. I haven't had a good shot at a birds since fixing the Benelli and buying the Kent. Looking forward to an afternoon hunt today.

I have been shooting my SBE II now for the past two seasons. I always used black cloud with my supernova, and it performed the best out of all other loads. I have tried the remington hypersonic, and it is crap for ducks, but the BB's killed geese DEAD. I couldnt hit a damn duck with it to save my life. For the SBE, I have tried every load I could possibly put through it, and Kents and Hevi Metal perform the best out of everything. I will never buy another box of remington steel shot in my life.

Shot the Hevi-Metal tonight and I honestly think the Kent patterned better from my gun/choke combo. Hopefully I can find out tomorrow!

You guys ever shoot any of the Fiochi ammo, the stuff seems pretty good

I tried it and it would not cycle properly through my 1187. I looked online and found that is a common problem. Cheap, but didn't work at all for me. Frustrating when a ball of ducks drop in and you can only shoot one time.

Problem solved!

Just smoked two geese at 40 yards and put a follow up on a winged bird at 60. Long Range Carlson and 3" Kent 2s. Happy, Happy, Happy!

Glad you got it figured out. Better shells make a world of difference. Shoot trap with the 100rd value pack then mid cycle switch to a box of 10 dollar trap shells. WORLD of difference.

I ended the day dusting a mallard flying at us about 30' up and 10 yards to my left. Pulled the trigger with a load of Hevi-Shot and he piled up in a hurry! Really made my day after struggling most of the season.
