It was intense. We saw the bunny hop into the brush to our left, but wasn't sure exactly where it was sitting. It didn't bolt out until Molly got real close... then it was carrying themail. kody put a nice shot on it putting it into a somersault. Lol

Getting caught up around here. Had some evil malware on my dinosaur computer and finally decided to just say the heck with trying to remove it. So wiped the hard drive clean and did a clean install of Windows and I'm finally back in action on the internet. Much better!

So not much action around here, eh? Wouldn't be a little thing called snow, would it? LOL! Dang it's been hard to get outside with the hounds. I'm still after the elusive pasture rabbit. They have been hanging out within 20 feet or less of their holes and so when the dogs and I get to them, it's a quick short run right into the hole. If we get some melting with lots of water run off, that should help the cause as some of the holes will be unusable. Not this week, but next week is forecast to be up near 50 degrees. Fingers crossed.

Took the dogs out for 2 hours today. Probably about 18" of snow pack. About a foot of powder on the top. The dogs worked hard. The human worked hard too. We took a walk to the backside of the farm and NOTHING was moving around back there in the way of rabbits. They are pretty much staying under the snowpack right now as it is too soft for them on top. The one rabbit I did see was really floundering in the deep powder on the way to running to a hole.

Feb 1st, the dogs did get one up and running at the back of the farm. I shot one and then was standing nearby to let the dogs finish out the track. Another rabbit came hopping right by me, but I had set my gun down. Doh! That hopping rabbit was the one the dogs were on and I had shot an auxiliary rabbit. LOL! The picture is on the ground near my garage back at the house which is why there is some bare grass. It was a good sized rabbit too. :)

Oh and today, after running in deep snow for 2 hours, I let the dogs rest about an hour and them fed them dinner. After dinner, my male picked up one of his toys and started running around the house like a crazy dog. Dang well conditioned hounds. :) I told him he was supposed to be tired. Well that's going to have to do for getting exercise until Saturday afternoon. Fingers crossed for some snow melting before the last weekend of the season (the weekend after next).

Yeah it's been slow and the ladies are getting as cranky as I am lol... Friggin cabin fever is settling in... Been out here and there a couple of times (without dogs) just filling feeders and pulling cards, did a short yote calling hunt but nothing of any time that I'm used too.... So hoping the warmer temps coming hanged all that lol....

I'm going too run the dogs as much as I can this spring due too commitments this summer won't be able too so hopefully the weather cooperates lol ...

Ok, this weather sucks! I love snow, but the ice gotta go. I was hoping to get out Saturday, but not sure now. The high is 24, which is fine by me, but the ice crust on top of the snow makes it miserable for the dog. We need one warmup to rid the ice. I took Molly out behind the house yesterday after work just to get her out. She ended up with cuts all over her stomach from the ice. She was bleeding pretty bad and we weren't out that long. With every step she busted through the ice and sank 6" into the snow. Just terrible conditions to run her in.

Our season is dwindling and the conditions aren't improving.

A little bit of action this weekend. Just got in from taking the dogs out for 3 hours. I did not carry a gun as this was just to get them some exercise. We have a good foot of snow and it's been cold with a little new snow almost every day. That means we have no crust to speak of (there is a minor crust about 1/2 way down). The dogs, the rabbits and the person are all having to put forth a good deal of effort to keep moving. Since this cold snap, most runs have been very short as the rabbits are staying very close to holes. Today was the best day of running in several weeks, but that doesn't mean it was good. Had a few good sight chases (slow motion as the rabbits are floundering in the snow followed by the dogs floundering in the snow). Still, it was nice to see some rabbits out and about for a change.

Yesterday I took the dogs out for an hour in the late afternoon. It was 13 degrees with a windchill of 0. Made our usual rounds through the pasture putting one rabbit after the other straight into a hole. Finally caught one off guard. The dogs pushed it into some brush on the other side of the creek. That gave me the chance to get over to the mound of dirt with all the holes and stand there and wait. A few minutes later the dogs pushed it out of the brush where the rabbit was hiding and it ran right toward me. That one will be supper. :)

I'm hoping the mid week warm up will cause some good snow melting and the warmer temps will carry into next weekend because next weekend is the last weekend. Been a rough February for running rabbits for sure.

Have had the crud the last fee days and had too get out of the house for some fresh air.... Pulled camera cards and had too catch my breath for a few minutes on the way too the truck..... With the lousy weather and cold temps I'm loosing interest in the remainder of the season.... Working the next two weekends don't help either.... It's been a pretty good season over all just the last month had sucked lol.....

Once the weather warms and the snow melts I'll get the girls back out..,, I owe them some good runs....

This snow/ice crust/snow absolutely stinks!!! Took Molly out across the street from
My house Friday after work. Lots of old tracks in the snow. But nothing was out.

Went today to the same place after another 2" of fresh snow. Not one track to be found.

Kind of bummed. Just when she started running good, this weather just put a screeching halt to any progress.

Maybe next weekend.

Switchitter had a few of us over to his place on Saturday for a bunny stomp with bows and arrahs. dogs did ok for us, but seemed to struggle a bit. had 11 jumps, a few good chases. only managed a few shots, but one lucky hunter connected. beautiful day to be out with bow in hand, sun shining and biggle dogs serenading us all day.

Biggle dogs. Love that. Congrats on the bunny. I was out with my neighbor who was trying to get one with a bow, but no luck.

Yesterday was the absolutely best day of running rabbits since November. Finally. It was kind of funny. I started off on my place and got through the creek bottom and headed to the woods without jumping a rabbit. My neighbor's son saw me out and called my cell phone. They were out there jumping rabbits right and left and invited me over with the dogs. So I turned around and the dogs and I went across the road to run rabbits. Had one awesome chase. Over and hour. Everyone was laughing and having fun and no one was shooting. Finally they had to leave but said I could keep hunting. So I headed back along an old brushy fencerow and the dogs got one up and running. The rabbit was running good when my other neighbor down the road called. I answered that call and he wanted to know if I wanted to come down to his place and run rabbits. LOL! Told him I was in the middle of running a rabbit (he said he could hear the dogs) and I would call him back in a few minutes. Caught up to a brush pile where the dogs had chased the rabbit. Found the rabbit. Shot the rabbit. Called my other neighbor back said give me 30 minutes to get home, dress out the rabbit I just shot and take off a layer of clothes (I was getting warm with the sun out). Finished at home, hopped in the car and then went down to the other neighbor's and ran 3 or 4 rabbits down there over the course of a couple hours. Was out a little over 5 hours total and had SOOOOOOOO much fun.

Today I just got in from letting dogs run a rabbit. One chase. Lasted an hour. Perfect crust has developed on the snow for both rabbit and dogs. The dogs were right on it and it was heavenly to watch. Ended when the rabbit went in a groundhog hole.

Have 4 rabbits cooking in the crockpot right now and the house smells oh so good.

We had a great hunt this eve with Hunter running better than he has all season. He ran the first back around and it was just below us and no shot offered. The 2nd one he ran back right to Andrews gun barrel but he never fired and we watched it run under the neighbors barn. We had a good day last Sat and Andrew should of had a couple but he never shot. I told him I'm going have to start packing my gun, lol. Gonna try to get out a couple more times in the last few days.

Had Molly out Sunday. She had three runs, two of them were real good. I just carried a pistol in case I had an easy shot. Two of the rabbits offered great shots but I decided to just let them go. I am very pleased how Molly has come along and can't wait for next year! At one point Sunday, though, she had an identity crises. I think she thought she was a duck dog as she sloshed through the high water.
