Great stories all! Congrats on getting out in the field!

After the dogs being housebound all week long (darn having to work anyway), I am so looking forward to getting them out tomorrow. BUT 3-5 inches of snow forecast overnight. It was 1-3" forecasted this morning. I liked that a lot better. Not sure if I am going to carry a gun or not, but I'll at least get the dogs out for a bit. I've got a 3 day weekend. Hope to do some squirrel hunting Sunday or Monday weather dependent.

The weekend is here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We went out today as planned. It was cold. 15 degrees when we left the house at 11:30am. The sun was out though. But that didn't really help because the wind was blowing. Stayed out 2 hrs and 15 mins. Had only about an inch of fresh snow. Had one good run. We circled the pasture twice. Lots of cold trailing. I guess that's appropriate since it was cold! As we walked out of the pasture the dogs got on a fresh scent and took off for an adjacent woodlot. I hung back waiting for the rabbit to circle. Which it did. Eventually. After my face was frozen. The dogs were a good 10-15 minutes behind so by the time they caught up, the rabbit headed back to the woods for another loop. Tried a long shot when it came back around a second time. Missed. Back to the woodlot. The third time back I missed seeing it going by in some thick stuff. I was hiding from the wind behind some farm equipment. Then the rabbit made an unexpected appearance which is what happens when one is hiding from the wind behind farm equipment. I turned and shot twice as it was fleeing back to the pasture. Missed. It ran to a hole. End of story. :)

Had chubby Molly out today fora short hunt. She ha one great run. She busted a rabbit out of the brush and was running by sight for awhile. It was hilarious watching her try to either hurdle logs or go under. Finally the nose took over and she brought it around. One shot op but it was a quick one and I let it go. She ran it half way around the second time but lost it.

I'm going to try and drag myself out for a squirrel hunt later, but mr. bluedog and I had a night in the big city and got home at 2:30am. Needless to say I am moving a little slow this morning. My older beagle hurt her leg sometime yesterday. As with most strains and sprains, she seemed ok yesterday but has really stiffened up overnight. The "hole" that the rabbit went in yesterday was our burn pile that I have mentioned before. Both dogs were trying to get in and both cats were in there as well, but the rabbit was holed up tight. I'm pretty sure I didn't hit it as it took the dogs for a 10 minute loop through the pasture after I shot and before it holed up. I saw it a couple times and it looked ok. But it would not come out of there. That older female of mine is pretty aggressive at trying to get in a woodpile when she knows a rabbit is in there. At one point she was biting at the wood around an opening into the pile and got a chunk of wood stuck in her mouth. I had to help her out with that one. But she climbs all around and squeezes herself through all sort of crevices to get in there. It's amazing she doesn't get hurt more often. So for now she's on injured reserve. Hopefully a little time and some carprofen and she'll be back at it soon.

Just got back in..... Woke up with a sinus headache and figured what better way too survive it then outside following hounds lol..... Had one run that lasted over an hour and could of dropped it twice but figured they were running it really good so let them go .... They brought it around a total of 4 times and one run took the whole wood lot and woods combined..... They finally struggled with it and I called them off.... Temps weren't too bad but that wind was another story.... Bad windburned face and cold toes but other than that not bad lol.....

Molly ran what must've been the runt of the litter. Small rabbit! Brought around once but no shot. Then She stopped to throw up and started again. Kinda like an athlete that outta shape and was just starting back in conditioning. Lol!

Good day out.
