I almost drilled a longbeard in full strut standing on the white line on SR83 this morning. I stopped and was probably 5yds from him a he stood there all blown up. He even gobbled once right beside me before following a hen into the woods. It got me fired up for turkey season!

went out this morning to listen for birds for youth season. hit the call at two different woods and birds were coming in running and gobbling. if we have good weather next weekend the birds seem to be hot and ready to die.

My turkey hunting buddy and I made it out to roost some birds. They seem to be broke up more now then a week ago. Never heard any but seen four. One big tom that was blowed up. Next week should be good.

Right outside of town along the Tuscarawas river. Long beard was putting on a show for the hens.

Went out this morning to do a little listening. Heard at least 4 diff birds, and had a hen fired up and ready to tussle. I told my dad I should've never gone out. Because I'm ready to get my gun and get in there right now! Lol. Man I love this time of year. Also almost hit a hen on the way back to the house

Alex and I located two more this morning. Went to another spot and had two hens yapping up a storm searching for a tom. Won't be long and one will move in there too.

I cleaned up 4 of my sets a couple days ago and one will be a new set for me. I picked this spot because I've observed many occasions where birds walked near this tree over the last 3 seasons while not being pressured. Here is the view from the direction where they come from after pitching off their roosts in the morning.

Hope I'm able to chase them some this season. I'm mostly going to only have Tues&Weds to chase them and the evening during the last 2 weeks. I'm getting stoked...

Outside
I have 4 main property's that I turkey hunt.
I know there are a few birds on each property as I have been hearing them but they are staying pretty quiet.

I went to some public land this morning and found a bunch of birds. So atleast I have a fall back plan.

Looks like a great spot to me! If there gobbling within a hundred yards or so before daylight then yelp and cluck, if they respond then when its light enough to see take your hat slap it off your thigh to sound like fly down and yelp or cluck a few times and if their interested you'll know. From that point answer them as long as their on roost. Might work might not. If their gobbling talk to them till ya know their on a rope.

Thanks for the info Aaron! There is a gap to my left here off this pic where the farmer takes his tractor from this field and to the field behind me here. This is where I've seen natural travel and strutting during various times over the last 3 years. I won't be able to hunt till Wednesday morning so I will give your advice a try then buddy!

This is just an observation and not a "the sky is falling" cry for help but this year so far has yielded very little turkey sign, turkey sightings or turkey vocalizations in or around my hunting area. The last 3 years I had turkeys up to my eyeballs and lots of action by now but this year it's very minimal at best. I know they are around me but just wonder why this year is different than the last 3. Weird if you ask me....:smiley_confused_vra

I am kinda in the same boat Ric. I have scouted the last few days and will youth hunt/scout until season, but I haven't found them like I did last year. I think the most challenging part of turkey hunting is keeping them on the properties you can hunt. Lol.

I haven't scouted at all yet. I haven't a clue if there are birds even on the property we are going to in the morning, but I'm betting there are. You're welcome to come over any time, Ric. We'll have a good time whether we find turkeys or not!

The birds are late by about three weeks from our observations. Usually by the time season comes in the birds have been vocal for three weeks and breeding for a week or so. They're just now starting to hen up. The hens aren't ready but are looking for toms. I think the birds will be henned up like crazy the first couple weeks of season.
