My daughter and I took my dad to a property to show him where to listen in the morning. We saw a hoss of a coyote pop out and see us in the open field at about 800 yds. He turned and came right at us slowly walking to about 200 yds. At that point my dad and my daughter headed for the truck. I then started walking at him and he walked at me. At about 125 yds I thought that was close enough as he was walking at me and clearly was not backing down. I turned and headed to the truck and he just stood there watching me. It was pretty odd.

Had an exciting morning so far. We had 3 gobblers around us. Had one work in and put on a show. He got to about 35yds and saw my youth hunters barrel bouncing. He shot and missed. It was his first hunt an a very good one, just wished he would of got him.

Just got back in from trying to locate some birds. No dice. Did see four deer. That was a plus. At least a few survived the winter.

Good luck to all the youngsters this weekend.

We heard three on the roost. Mason killed a jake at 850. Gobbled well, worked him for 45 minutes or so. One clean shot. I filmed it so I'll try to get it on youtube this evening. Fun morning as always.

Nice work Mason!

Not that I actually kill turkeys, but I've been wanting to shoot a jake for a few years to have my own tail fan for a decoy.
