Hate to hear it Mike!

I went out last Wednesday for the first time and set up under what turned out to be 6 jakes. Called them right in to my lap and pulled the old "look over the gun barrel" trick! Managed to miss on all 3 shots! :smiley_blackeye: Went out again Saturday and set up on the same birds. They pitched towards an annual strut zone and that's all she wrote. If I do my usual, that'll be it for me! lmao

I had a good hunt this morning. Being only my second opportunity to hunt birds so far I didn't let the rain keep me from hunting this morning. To lazy to carry in a blind and set it up in the dark and rain so I just went out and got a little wet. Birds were very quiet this morning. Didn't hear any gobbles from the roost and about one minute of hen chatter a half hour after fly down that sounded like a couple hundred yards away. I waited till about 7:20 to do a few yelps and got one gobble that sounded like it was 100 yards out and closing. I got the gun up and was in shooting position when I first spotted the long necked redhead making his way around the fields edge heading right towards me. Even though I could tell he was a nice jake and wasn't planning on shooting him I clicked the safety off and settled the bead on his neck at 15 yards just in case I changed my mind or a Tom suddenly showed up. Couldn't pull the trigger on a jake just yet but it was very tempting. After I let him walk he showed back up about 45 minutes later but out of range and appeared to be out looking for love. I hunted till 9:40 and felt mother natures wrath about to throw down in my gut so I slipped on out and headed home.

Going to try again tomorrow as long as it ain't storming!

Congrats to those who killed today and good luck to those still hunting!

Sounds like a great hunt Ric! After all the time you put in the last couple of years, that is the luckiest jake to have ever lived!

Tag purchased... If the weather is good in the morning I'm going. If I can kill one w the vid cam running I will. Otherwise I'm scouting for Mason. I may take him out of school Thursday if I find one to hunt. If not, we are participating in a youth hunt on Saturday down at Paint Creek.

Outside
Got one to come across the field at 11. He gobbled 5 times at me. He hung up at 60 yards. I belly crawled in the downpour and got to 40 yards. Got on my knees and shot. My arrow landed right at his feet.

Well done on the jake!
I found one to hunt. Didn't kill him, but Mason probably will. Got wet, rained on all morning. Did find some mushrooms while slipping away from the gobbler @ 1130.

That's a tough one when its raining and they still don't show up in the field. They must know that your gonna bust one of their azz's. Next week you can stay right there and at 230 your still legal to kill one of them. Good luck man, its just a matter of time before your plan works.

Congrats on the bowkill Chad! Nice try Taylor, great hunt though! I know the feeling Zach, very frustrating so far!

My observations so far after three hunts, its been very quiet and slow as compared to the three previous years. Numbers appear to be lower and breeding season seems to need a kick start! Two of my 3 hunts I saw hens feeding in a field not making a sound without a swinging dick anywhere in sight. Just wondering if this past winter had any bearing on what's taking place right now. I did find 4-5 turkey carcasses this shed season.
