Great morning on stand! I've had two 10's coming in somewhat regularly. One I would love to kill. One I'm iffy on. The iffy one came in. He's been 9:30 most morning like clockwork. I sat down at 8:30 and sure enough, at 9:30 I noticed antlers up on the ridge above me. He followed the steep switchback trail down the hill to about 75 yards from me. As a doe fed in front of me at 20, he made his way to me, veered left and fed in the thicket at 40 yards. I had one small opening, but rolled the dice that he would come closer as it sure as hell looked like he would. So, I waited... he slowly fed from my left to my hard left, staying at 40. I kept watching back where he came from hoping the bigger one was trailing... nothing. So, I decided, if I get the shot, I'm taking it.
He meandered to the edge of the flat I'm hunting and closed to 35 yards hard over my left shoulder. By now the doe had walked far enough away where I could draw undetected. The buck now stood in the thicket and took a few steps to the very edge of the hill and I could tell he was going to head off to bed and not come closer. I drew and waited for an opening to slip an arrow through. He took a few steps, but I never did get that opening. He slowly slipped over the hill and off to bed.
I didn't get my shot, but what a great morning! I've sat in a stand for 3 1/2 months and haven't drawn on a buck. I've drawn on a coyote... pissed around drawing on doe, but this was the first on a shooter. Felt good!
Checked the card when I got home and the bigger one was there yesterday at 4:00. Damn it!!! I almost went but got lazy and stayed on the couch. Bastard is playing cat and mouse with me.
It's on this evening. I'll be there!
Here is the one I drew on today. Pic is from the other day becaus today he didn't follow the path to death. Lol
Here is the bigger one at night and yesterday evening.
