Worthless without pictures...only took video, but I took the FIL to an indoor gun range yesterday. He isn't real experienced with handguns but is thinking about getting one. We rented a Ruger SP101 in .22 - that is a slick shooting gun. Sitting down, I grouped the first 8 shots into a 1.5 inch diameter sticker at 10 feet. Also rented a Ruger Mark .22 with a laser on it...that was flat out cheating, I was just holding the gun and looking above it at the laser. He tolerated my 9mm and did not like my .38 J-frame, but I shot both of those well. It was a good time introducing someone to handguns and I was pleasantly surprised to shoot pretty damn well myself. Looking forward to taking the wife for a date there in the near future!

Hopefully I can convince him to buy the Ruger SP101 lol...any other good quality .22 revolvers out there?

Very cool Huck. Anytime you can show someone, teach someone, or give someone a new experience with guns. . . It is a good thing. You are correct. The J frame 38specials are not friendly to the inexperienced. Surprisingly accurate for a 2" barrel. Not designed so much for target shooting. lol You know what that means? You need to buy a big boy revolver. Maybe a larger framed 357 to take friends shooting and leave by the night stand? Erin didn't like my 642 at all. Shot my buddy's 357 in a larger frame and was telling me how much she liked it. Might be time to take Momma shopping for something more manageable. Good excuse to buy another gun. lmao

Yea, I could see a Smith & Wesson collection with a .38 J-Frame, larger .357, and a big .44 mag. Someday...I got time to add to the collection...I was thinking with that recent purchase that I have been fortunate enough to buy a gun about once a year the last few years. Of course, they have not been anything fancy but all good pieces none the same.

Didn't you have a .44 mag?

Yes. S&W 629. Might be time to post it back in here. I believe it is in this thread somewhere.

"Nothing fancy" you say? Excellent choices as I recall. I have only added what I consider fancy or flashy stuff the last 5-10yrs. When I was mid 20's, it was tube fed 22's or bolt action flea market shotguns. Total utility pieces. Fast forward yourself 15yrs. Now envision the first gun safe full. Now envision explaining to your wife why you need a second gun safe when you just bought one 5-8yrs ago. haha. This is when I started thinning the herd. I didn't want to have this conversation with my wife. My point? Guns come and go. Our needs/wants change over time. They all tell a story though and they are all fun.

DSC03681.jpg This was my S-W collection and about makes me want to cry when i look at this pic. Went through tough times and had to sell all but the 686 357. If i had to go on welfare i wouldn't sell that one lol. Times are better now but the money it would take to replace the three i sold would be up there.

GoetsTalon- Its a cycle most of us go through over the years. I guess the best that can be said is that it allows one to appreciate things as we get older.
A fine assortment of Smiths.

CJD here's one of the rifles we were discussing Monday.

H&R M12 bought off the seconds rack at the CMP store for $110 or $120 with the freeland adjustable butt. I painted the stock and mounted the Sightron scope in a Ken Viami no drill mount.

Very nice Sam! That left handed model had quite a interesting story to it.

Of course the M12 is very sexy.

Looks nice Tom, why you shortening the barrel?

Thanks. Mostly because like short rifles. I already have an earlier production 336c in 35 rem that will keep its 20 inch barrel. In the 70s marlin made a limited production of 16.5 336 rifles they called marauders. i have wanted one for a while but dont prefer its straight stock. Then beener posted a picture of winchester 94 trapper that I really like the looks of other than it being a winchester. So i decided to build my own custom marlin 336 trapper type rifle.
