I got in the blind a little later than I'd have liked due to having to drop Mason off for basketball practice tonight. I was only in the blind 20 minutes or so before seeing 4 antlerless and two small bucks trot across the wheat field in front of me. They were 100 yards away, running from my right to left. They appeared like something had spooked them out of the thicket, but weren't running full speed. A short time later I heard the wonderful sound of a dog running deer 600 yards west of me. He wasn't very good at it as he didn't stick with one trail, he apparently liked to jump deer and chase it a short while before finding another to chase for a spell. He wound up running deer all around me, even ran one right behind my blind. It was typical.
I think I may resist the temptation to hunt again until we get back into frigid temps...if we do. I heard chainsaws, four wheelers, dogs, people yelling ... the sort of thing you run into when the weather warms up to tolerable temps. I prefer hunting when we are the only people out and about. We may go Saturday evening just because I've got people scheduled here at work so we can get out for a bit, and with Mason's schedule getting real busy for a while, he isn't going to be able to get out much from now till the end of season.
