I have a couple of farmers around here that sell us giant brown eggs for $1.00 a dozen. My milk and Bread usually comes from the walmart that my wife stops at in Ottawa. If I can, I buy a lot of the boxed stuff at Dollar General except for some stuff that cant be generic, like Mac and Cheese. I'm lucky enough to have friends that get great deals on some meat. Im currently getting 2 finished Hogs in mid March for $130-140 apiece. Those are for my sister and Nephew as I just butchered one for myself in November. but those will not see a butcher shop either. We know what we're getting and a lot more of it. What beef I do buy I happen to buy on sale. Sunday morning I had to go to the local grocery store, a Community Market, to get a few things for a Birthday party. The butcher was setting out sirloin steaks in packs of 4 and 8 for $5.00 and $10.00. I ended getting 28 steaks for $35 bucks. Most of them were around 8oz with a few about 6oz. I also picked up 8 lbs of 85/15 ground beef for $2.29lb on clearance. I fugged up by not buying the 3 whole pork loins they had for $1.99lb. I didn't because all the pork I have, but at that price I was pissed on the way home that I didn't get them. I took everything home and individually vacuum sealed the steaks and did the burger in 1lb packs. Anywhere I see chicken leg and thigh quarters on sale I pick up. Usually the first week day after a holiday weekend when they overstock and overprice all the meats is when they drastically mark everything down. The looks on peoples faces when Im stacking that stuff in my cart is priceless. But we have a shitload of parties in the summer and I always cook a crapload of food for everyone, so spoilage is never a problem. Almost forgot, I stopped and filled up on gas before I went home and as Im standing there freezing, I found a $50 bill encased in ice and snow laying under the edge of the softener salt that they stack up at the pumps:smiley_coolpeace:

Sounds like my purchasing habits. I anticipated getting 2-3 deer this season but I only got one so I had lots of freezer space available. We have a local Sparkle that has weekly sales on meats so I visit there regularly. In the past month...this is what I've bought.

26# New York Strip Steaks (cut 1" thick) $ 3.49/#
50# Whole Pork Loin $ 1.88/#
25# Whole Pork Rib Slab $ 1.59/#
40# Western Cut Pork Ribs (bone in) $ .99/#
20# Chicken Quarters $ 7.99/10#
20# Italian Pork Sausage Linked $ 1.99/#

My freezer is almost full and I'm ready for Spring and Summer BBQ/grilling.

TIL that it is totally acceptable to piss beside a bus stop bench if it is cold. Lol

Ole' boy whipped it out like nothing.

BTW I have a theory that those with a low IQ have huge hoses. God making up for lacking in other attributes. Lol

HA! Mine theory was based on small, pasty white dude. My two best friends in HS were 5'5" on their best day and 120lbs soaking wet. Both were proud of their baby's arm holding a plum and once well inebriated, were quick to whip it out. lmao

Ok, how about when some one dies and the funeral home is doing there thing do they put underwear on the person under their clothing? :smiley_confused_vra

That's up to the family's dress request.
My sister asked the funeral home if my niece (9 at the time) could be buried in her undergarments. To my knowledge they honored the request.

TIL owning a home built in 1940 blows.....3 layers of ceiling to remove due to frozen pipes that burst in 5 places and no insulation. Have insulation in for tonight/tomorrow and the pipes insulated. Back at it tomorrow evening...View attachment 28524

Gotta love an old house. Mine was from the 20's, then the 60's (dbl whammy! lol)

Today I learned what subterfuge actually means. I also learned that home made taco meat seasoning is better than the packaged stuff. and I can pronounce everything I put in it.

Ours is a 1947 model. While it sucks in situations like Ryan's, it is nice looking a the rough cut oak framing above my head when I am in the basement. Built them like tanks back then.

Cumin. Mexican and tex-mex calls for a lot of cumin.
I have an endless supply of that stuff. Growing up in Hoytville, 90% of my friends were Mexican, so I have an affinity for authentic tex/mex cooking. Barbacoa, manoodle, meat and green beans, meat and corn, chorizo and eggs, Pasolli (I probably butchered the spelling on all that stuff). My Sister's husband is Mexican and she learned quite a bit of recipes from her Mother In Law before she passed. When there are parties she usually makes a huge dish of chicken and rice that gets devoured and everybody always gets a funny look when they find out she made it. It's the reason I cant stand store bought salsa and if I eat store bought tortillas I have to at a minimum heat them up over the fire of the stove

My best friend moved to Dallas to teach inner city kids a few years ago. He said he doesn't miss home that bad because the food is the same that we grew up on in rural NW Ohio:smiley_crocodile:
