I love cold, clear, calm mornings. Can hear a long ways and birds seem to gobble hard. It has been a good season for me so far. I called one in on the opener for my buddy, and I got a nice gobbler yesterday. Def. less birds in my area, have only heard a few gobblers and zero hens. There was a poor hatch last year, probably the main reason. With less hens, gobblers have been much more responsive though. Congrats to all who made it out and good luck out there!

Good to hear Seth, congratulations to you and your buddy!

Well, I went this morning and gave it a pretty good effort. Got set up around 6 first few gobbles started at 6:09 then I heard someone shoot right at 6:15 before the 6th gobble! They still had to be roosted at that time as it was still pretty dark. When he shot 3-4 other birds shock gobbled like they were still roosted. Things got real quiet real fast after he shot but I stayed still and quiet till 7:30 moved 100 yards to a strutting zone and called a few times over 2 hours with nothing responding. Moved back to the area where they roost into a lower picked cornfield and called in 3 hens at 11:30 to 15 yards that had no clue I was around. The biggest hen really made a racket and covered some ground to kick my ass the way she carried on! Even with all her calling not a Tom to be heard or seen. I did here one lone gobble when a honker flew over head making racket but he was a ways behind me across the creek in a CRP field that I don't have permission to hunt. Hunted hard on a beautiful day from first light to noon and had a great time!

Gonna try to hunt tomorrow maybe, we'll see...

Been chasing them around. Called one in for a youth on Sunday. Called one in for my boss yesterday. He got to 45 yards and was turning to head out the other way. He ended up missing. We took a chance at a long shot and didn't connect. Hopefully today.

The group of 6 that were together on Monday and Wednesday were split up this morning. Impatience probably cost us a bird. One of them died around 7:45 on a neighboring farm. I called in a lone hen this morning too. It was a fun morning, but still nothing to show for it.

Had one about 300 yds away on the roost this morning,fi,ally got him in around 7am and waiting on him to pass some trees and the fugger putted and took off running.
Looked to my left about 65 yds away and two coyotes came trotting over the hill.Bastards.lol
Been out two times and missed one yesterday at 11:30,let him get too close i guess and when i shot he moved and flat out missed and the yotes today.lol
Damn! could have been tagged out but sure have had fun.

Had one gobbling around 100 yards this morning, until the neighbor kid came in between me and the turkey and started calling. The bird went silent. I came back at 10 30 and still wouldn't respond. Did see 3 gobblers crossing the other neighbors field and stopped and got permission to turkey hunt it. I am trying to get over my fear of asking to hunt. It paid off this time. I will try it out next week. Another pretty silent morning over all.

Mason and I overslept this morning. It happens. We arrived at the farm around 730. Old Loudmouth was in his usual spot, gobbling with his girls. We didn't get it done, but we may tomorrow.

Went out yesterday morning got there around 6 was 24 degrees and pretty quiet. Sat down for a while and started calling a little but never heard a gobble. Didnt help a hunter on the adjacent property was making all kinds of racket "calling". Moved on to another spot down the road didnt hear anything but got to watch a pair of bald eagles for a while! Cant complain about that! :pickle:
