Checked the cam one the way to the stand tonight. Got to view the pics on my old digital cam. 2200 pics since Saturday morning. Lots of doe and a young 8 that is always around.

Just had this little spike walk through.

Prob the only night I had free to hunt this week until Friday so I had to get out.

I saw probably 10 deer today. I am on vacation with the family though. I had my daughter try to sneak up on a doe and she actually got about 20 yards from it lol. Wife was rolling her eyes. I was sitting on a log for a good 30 minutes just watching deer eat acorns and I was happy as can be doing it!

Here's a picture of Abby trying to sneak up on a doe.image.jpg

As I was coming up out of the woods and entering the field I could see an 8 point in the skyline with his ears pinned back about 60 yards away. He was walking quickly to my left. I headed around the field and noticed two doe looking up toward that buck. He had circled around to face off with another 8 point.
I kept sneaking around just to see what was going to happen and those two buck kept walking right toward me. The smaller of the two closed to about 30-40 yards and stood broadside in the skyline. Not a shooter but both were 120-125. They didn't fight but looked to be about to.

They finally realized I wasn't suppose to be there and they trotted off.

Two evenings in a row saw good pre rut action.

It's a small one but only my 3rd deer so I'm happy with it. This is the first year that I am finding all my spots and hanging sets and such so it's the first deer I have found myself. I see a lot of small bucks in the spot where I shot this one, now hopefully I can get a doe at one of my other spots.

I'm sure that most of us (besides Mason) started out shooting bucks that size or smaller. Nothing to be ashamed of man. Congrats on being able to put it all together by yourself! Thats a hell of an accomplishment on itself. You'll be shooting "the big ones" in no time. And this will probably be your most memorable deer of the collection. I know my most memorable buck is much smaller than that one...

Congrats Jason. As long as your happy with him that's all the matters. Like Giles said, we all had to start somewhere and I too have my most memorable on the wall that is about that size. It's not a matter of the size but the adventure that was had buddy.

Can't say anything that hasn't already been said. My first buck with a bow is smaller than that one but it means alot to me. Before long you'll be after the big boys that haunt our dreams every night. It's even more special that you got that deer on public land, congrats!!

If I could figure out how to post pics on here I'd share the pic of my first buck with a bow I killed last year. He wasn't much bigger than that but it's one of my best hunting memories!
