I let us all down today and failed to pay attention to detail. Forgot to tuck my collar in and my string caught it when I released. Slapped an arrow right off the back of a WV 11-point at 25 yards broadside at 7:30 this morning. That's the only deer either of us saw from the stand today. We hung some great sets for tomorrow AM in a super remote, river bottom CRP field. We are both on inside corners with hardwoods behind us. Should be a decent morning.
So far, we've walked 14 miles in 3 days. Two certainties this trip: It's beautiful down here and we've worked hard.
We spent last night at deer camp with some locals. We ate fresh deer meat off a doe they'd killed, fried taters and onions, drank some beers, played corn hole on the coolest set of custom boards I've ever seen, and listened to a young man named Hunter Hathcoat play guitar and sing around the fire, all on the banks of the Current River deep in the Ozark Mountains. It was a good a time as can be had on this planet.
