Well we headed out Saturday morning to some new property that belonged to my buddy's former coworkers mom and stepdad.... Met him there at 9 and got the lay of the land and boundaries worked out and dropped the tailgate and off we went.... Within a hundred yards I knew I had too many clothes on and peeled the hoody off and shoved it in the game bag.... Andy my buddies coworker commented hat he's not far behind in stripping down as well... It was not your normal January rabbit hunt... Weather wise.... It was 130 acres of woodlot on the south and Far East of the property and two overgrown tree lines dissecting cut corn fields with one being a wider creek bottom....
e girls worked and we walked 80% of the property and not one rabbit or any sign of any rabbits there.... Tons of deer trails throughout the creek bottom and I was looking more for sheds then rabbits a quarter of the way thru it lol.... Not an antler to be found.... We made it back too the truck and decided Andy's spots suck lol... Told him we were heading southeast and going to chase some bunnies lol....

Took him the scenic route (all back roads) and when we pulled in to our spot down by Lisbon, he couldn't tell you where we were lol.... Dropped the tailgate and off too the races they went.... Had a run within 2 minutes of them being dropped.... Actually had a second rabbit run out where the first one came out as we walked by...
The girls ran it for about 20 minutes and it ran into an area full of holes and that's where they lost the scent....
within 5 minutes we had a second rabbit go out, they ran it for about 10 minutes and Andy got it with his single shot 20ga. He was pumped lol... Let the girls come up too it and then he picked it up.... He walked away and called the girls over so he could skin it in peace lol....
Within a few minutes of hem coming to me they busted out another one and off they went, it actually came by me twice but they were having a good run with it and I let it go.... It looped around two more times and my Buddy Mike finally put a hit on it but only winged it as it was still moving but not fast.... Within a couple minutes Sarah found it and we heard it squeal and Andy was closest and he got it off of her...
we were there less than an hour and a half and with the heat I didn't want them to overdo it and get overheated.... There was a small runoff that held a few inches of water and they both laid down in it too cool off so we were done at that point....
All in all wasn't a bad day, first property although didn't net a thing it was worth the walk out there just to show Andy some spots to put up some stands to up his odds on deer....

Got the girls home and trimmed their nails, I swear Candy's nails grow twice as fast as Sarah's lol... Candy is off the oral antibiotics (just a topical in her ears) and only on another dose of anti-inflammatories... She's doing a lot better after one series of the antibiotics and is almost back too herself.....
Got them watered and fed and they devoured their food drank 1 1/2 bowls of water and then into the condo they went lol....

Looking forward too some cooler weather that's on the way.... Hopefully it'll stay fairly dry with snow and no more rain for a while .......

Well it's been a hell of a week.... Last Saturday I went down too Cottys place and hunted with his dad (Oldscout) And his son Kody.... Had a great time and got 4 or 5 with about a dozen runs.... Heck of a time to share with him and his family....

Monday headed down to Bolivar to hunt with Kaiser, his buddy Brett and a friend of mine met me down there... We had 4 dogs and had about a Dozen runs and got 6.... Lots of ground covered and had a blast and the girls were whipped by the end of the day.... Half the rabbits hit holes after some lengthy runs... Brett found a 60+" shed from this year of a buck they've been seeing....

Wednesday headed out for a solo hunt around my place and had 2 runs but each lasted over an hour.... Great workout for the girls as they were really long and far runs....

Thursday OhioSam, his buddy Roy, my buddy Dick and I headed to the apple orchard Sam and I deer hunt at... We started midday and it was cold, windy and blowing snow.... We had 5 dogs that day and ended with 3-4 rabbits but once we got outta the wind down in the hollers the dogs did great.... We ended up calling it quits when we ended up in close to whiteout conditions lol....

Today Dick and I headed to a property he has permission on down in Mechanicstown (hour south of me off of rte 39) about a hundred acres but it's thick and hilly.... This place was rabbit lollapalusa lol.... We had a dozen runs, saw well over 20 rabbits but it was so thick you couldn't see them to get any shots lol.... We got 3 but man what a place.... I haven't seen a place like this since back in the 90's.... If we had some snow it'd have. Even different since all the snow they had melted.... Girls were dragging ass and I had to literally drag them outta he dog box to get them too the kennel.... 5 hours of nonstop action.... They went to the kennel, bypassed their food and water right into the doghouse lol....

Probably going to hit a small public property with my buddy since it'll be an easy access for him to get around on bum knees.... I'm friggin whooped and sitting here half a sleep lol.... On the way home my buddy called and said he made dinner for the wife and I (we made chili and I dropped some off earlier this week for him.... I was starving since I hadn't eaten all day.... Chicken breast, stuffing mashed potatoes and wild rice.... I had a couple beers left over from the super bowl.... Life was good.... And so was the food!!!!

A busy bunny schedule indeed.

Ending the season with a bang....

I've decided to hit it heavy this month and my buddy Dick is retired as well and he's game to get out every day he can....

Bad thing about being retired and your friends are still working is if you want to hang out it's on weekends... Or their days off...

Sounds like a hell of a week. Retirement life...

If you can retire early and not hurt yourself..... For the love of god do it!!!!!

If you get bored ( I haven't yet in almost 2 years) go find a part time job.... You owe too yourself to make what time you have left your time and do the things you missed while raising/financing a family....
