Well we headed out Saturday morning to some new property that belonged to my buddy's former coworkers mom and stepdad.... Met him there at 9 and got the lay of the land and boundaries worked out and dropped the tailgate and off we went.... Within a hundred yards I knew I had too many clothes on and peeled the hoody off and shoved it in the game bag.... Andy my buddies coworker commented hat he's not far behind in stripping down as well... It was not your normal January rabbit hunt... Weather wise.... It was 130 acres of woodlot on the south and Far East of the property and two overgrown tree lines dissecting cut corn fields with one being a wider creek bottom....
e girls worked and we walked 80% of the property and not one rabbit or any sign of any rabbits there.... Tons of deer trails throughout the creek bottom and I was looking more for sheds then rabbits a quarter of the way thru it lol.... Not an antler to be found.... We made it back too the truck and decided Andy's spots suck lol... Told him we were heading southeast and going to chase some bunnies lol....
Took him the scenic route (all back roads) and when we pulled in to our spot down by Lisbon, he couldn't tell you where we were lol.... Dropped the tailgate and off too the races they went.... Had a run within 2 minutes of them being dropped.... Actually had a second rabbit run out where the first one came out as we walked by...
The girls ran it for about 20 minutes and it ran into an area full of holes and that's where they lost the scent....
within 5 minutes we had a second rabbit go out, they ran it for about 10 minutes and Andy got it with his single shot 20ga. He was pumped lol... Let the girls come up too it and then he picked it up.... He walked away and called the girls over so he could skin it in peace lol....
Within a few minutes of hem coming to me they busted out another one and off they went, it actually came by me twice but they were having a good run with it and I let it go.... It looped around two more times and my Buddy Mike finally put a hit on it but only winged it as it was still moving but not fast.... Within a couple minutes Sarah found it and we heard it squeal and Andy was closest and he got it off of her...
we were there less than an hour and a half and with the heat I didn't want them to overdo it and get overheated.... There was a small runoff that held a few inches of water and they both laid down in it too cool off so we were done at that point....
All in all wasn't a bad day, first property although didn't net a thing it was worth the walk out there just to show Andy some spots to put up some stands to up his odds on deer....
Got the girls home and trimmed their nails, I swear Candy's nails grow twice as fast as Sarah's lol... Candy is off the oral antibiotics (just a topical in her ears) and only on another dose of anti-inflammatories... She's doing a lot better after one series of the antibiotics and is almost back too herself.....
Got them watered and fed and they devoured their food drank 1 1/2 bowls of water and then into the condo they went lol....
Looking forward too some cooler weather that's on the way.... Hopefully it'll stay fairly dry with snow and no more rain for a while .......
