Today I was talking with a guy - we both started talking about deer hunting. He mentioned he hunts semi near where I hunt (general area of state).

Anyhow, he mentioned how it was 4 deer per county where he was at and it was 2 antlered and 2 does........Unless I misheard him, however, I believe I heard him straight.

How often do you think this is occurring that people simply don't understand the tag limits in the state? shooting 2 bucks, etc?

I am starting to think this happens more than I want to know.

Not excusing it, but can see how the ability to purchase more than one "either sex" tag could allow one to come to the wrong conclusion - if they don't read the entire regulation.

I'd love to see the ODNR come up with a system to get hunters back in a classroom type situation every so many years... To further explain things like this, future plans, educational type stuff that is county specific. Pipe dream I'm sure...but it sure would help hunters like that and give every hunter a chance to ask questions and have a voice. End the class with a survey about ODNR...dreaming BIG! Lol

I would have but the convo was directed back to business quickly after. He mentioned to me he only shot does last year so maybe he understood the but it sure sounded off

I've always thought so as well. I guess I've also grown up being told, you get one buck as well.

Lots of ignorant hunters out there! Many use it quite well when it comes to deer hunting the way they want.

So how does the state find out how many "ignorant" deer hunters tag multiple bucks? Would the check in system flag it?
Now I'm talking ignorant deer hunters, the ones who don't care and aren't checking them in anyway.....

Sure would. And if their GW is worth a damn he'll follow up. Send the DNR an email and ask how many hunters checked more than one antlered buck. Make sure you mention it's an open records request. They'll tell you.

I will admit that the either sex tags can be confusing if you don't read all the regulations. Being new to Ohio, when I started researching the regs, I at first thought you could take 2 buck, but then I read a little further and saw the part about only 1 antlered deer. If someone doesn't really read all the regs, I could see them getting it wrong. Not sure why they don't just go to seperate tags as it would be less confusing.

Because then you'd be stuck with a doe tag when a bucks walks by. Or stuck with a buck tag when a doe walks by. An either-sex tag is the best option. All people have to do is read and follow directions.

Why can't you buy both a buck tag and a doe tag? Wouldn't you be covered then?

They could make it very simple by only allowing the purchase of one either sex and the rest antlerless only. Make them all $24 and rename the 15 dollar ones to antlerless reduction tags.
