There is 4 to 7 inches on Lake Mitchel right now in most areas and the ice season has began.

Exactly, and while I understand that the weather needs to be right and is constantly changing, its a high probability there will be good ice in late Feb for decent-good fishing in Michigan.

I was hoping there was some pent up energy to establish a trip north each year, not going as far as to say a TOO outing but a date non the less to make the trip north each with a common group will the new ones jumping in if weather/timing works for them.

Guess it was me looking for an excuse since I don't go north and sled anymore lol.

I may very well be likely to to back north again this year depending on how the ice is around here. I get real tired of the warm/cold pattern in Ohio and lack of ice. Usually we only have a small window in southern Ohio which isnt enough for me. I have no issue driving for a panfish trip.

I'll be going north at some point, if and when the bay locks up I can't really go anywhere else. Amazing fishery up there. If Indian lake to the south gets solid I'll make a few trips down there as well. Until then, I'm watching the pond out back build up.

I'm hitting Indian tomorrow. It's a really dumb thing to do probably, but I'm going with a guy that knows the lake inside out and I'll be following him where he is confident we are good. We will be spudding the entire way. There were guys on it today. Its gonna be a bluegill/crappie deal in protected bays. Tomorrow is going to be the only day in quite a while that I'd go, looking at the forecast.

Good luck and obviously be safe put there. I’m not familiar with Indian Lake but it does surprise me that’s it’s fishable. I walked around in the marsh today and had, at most, 3” of ice. There were a lot of soft spots and the open water was getting bigger by the minute. That being said, I totally understand wanting to go scratch the itch. Keep that spud going!

First thing that comes to mind is there’s a couple Monday holidays coming up... one in January and one in February. Might be a couple decent choices for a weekend gathering.

Thank you. Indian is always one of the first actual big lakes to lock up and get fishermen on it. Lots of protected areas and super shallow. Lots of spots have had ice for a week and the last 3 days it's just grown more. I'm expecting 3.5 to 4 inches where we will be.

This is between my buddy and I. Lots of undersize saugeye as well. Fished from dark to dark. Ice was sketchy but never really felt unsafe. It was melting in the afternoon and after today it will not be fishable.

We need a TOO outing in that state up north......late Feb?
Did that on ogf about 6 yrs ago. About 7 or 8 of us from there went to Cadillac lake in that state up north . The one with the team that gets embarrassed by us yearly. It was a great time for most part. No walleyes caught by anybody but the lakes were full of northern pike and big largemouth. One of the guys let me use an aqua view with a 8 or ten inch color screen. Coolest shit!! Every hole i drilled id put camera in and bass were every where. Then right outside of shanty id have a hole for camera then my two inside id have a big shiner swimming with a jig and a vibe or sweedish pimple in other hole and could watch both baits and about 5 ft around and watch the fish looking, then open mouth , suck in bait and it was on. Was used to fishing blind and that was cool. Only downfall was it was no warmer than 10 degree and high winds. But i know myself and my brother would be in on a TOO ice fish get together. Love ice fishing. Hard to beat pulling a big fish or any fish for that matter thru a hole on ice. Any one whos never done it needs to try it. Very addicting.
