]Hmmm.... I have a cystoscopy scheduled for the end of March at a surgical center... Maybe I should postpone till end of April???
I have a tough decision to make. Decent $ invested in Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson in Columbus 3/20. I'm debating not going now. Minor 1st world problem in light of the big picture, but still something to consider.
So I've got some thoughts/questions in general:
1) So what is going on in China? Particularly, was the govt there able to maintain basic utilities like electric and water in the hardest hit areas? And when are their people going back to work, or have they already? What's going on there?
2) Do we think that the US CDC has been giving us the straight scoop on how bad this is going to be, or are they soft-pedaling info to avoid panic? OR, are they soft-pedaling info because they're being directed to for political reasons?
3) I don't know what the exact date was, but I remember exactly when it hit me that we were in for a shitshow - the CBS evening news had a reporter in China, and they said that they govt was rushing to build hospitals in 7 days. Then they cut to an action shot of a construction site that was filled with track hoes digging like mad - not like six or ten, but like 75 machines, all going at once. It was crazy. And I thought "if their govt is throwing that kind of effort and resource into something, it's got to be extremely serious."
4) Screening travelers from outside the country - it's going to help. But guess what? Sunzabitches is gonna lie thru their teeth, thinking they're special, and they're ok, not thinking about others, only their own convenience.
5) I wonder if the government will go so far with quarantine measures to restrict interstate travel? That would be a big deal.
I am holding to my next 5-6 week timeline for our neck of the woods to be most likely hit.At current spread, it is inevitable that we too will eventually share the same impact that's happening in washington. There are multiple states with evidence of community transmission. 2-14 days for the development of symptoms, 1 week for progression to a severe case where medical care is usually sought. This means that a virus will be in the community for 9-21 days before being identified. By then the only thing remaining to do is brace for incoming cases as a foothold has been firmly established.
Im guessing sooner. Lots of major sporting events in high school and college about to ramp up. March madness alone will spread disease like nobody's business. Think about hundreds of thousands of people crisscrossing the country over a two week period and packing into arenas. Notvto mention eating out, hotels, gas stations, etc...]
I'd wait it out but be in touch with your urologist. We haven't seen any cases in Ohio YET but that could change any day. The other issue will be if the center you're scheduled to be at, if they have any issues getting supplies as the supply lines from china and other countries slow down to a trickle from their issues with the virus. At current speed of new cases in the US I think we'll be ok until Aprilish but at some point the dam will break and it'll explode. It also depends how badly you need thep procedure which is between you and the surgeon.
I'd be cautious but not ready to ditch them yet, unless you can make some coin on the tickets and you can see him another time. Its possible they may try to reschedule as I've already seen news reports from the west coast about concerts being canceled.
1.)I've seen posts of people in china on reddit that are still in quarrantine, going on over a month stuck in their homes but still enough electricity and internet to post on reddit. So there's that....
2.) I think they are balancing it fairly well. but time will tell.
3.) Agreed
4.) Agreed, there was already one person who was supposed to be self quarrantined that decided to still go to a dinner party instead. And you have the morons who will commit acts of bioterrosism on both sides for political purposes going to rallys and such.
5.) I think if it gets bad enough we might see it. However the political ramifications considering its an election year will play into the decision also. Trump will be wrong no matter what he does (or tweets) and the other concern is the government using this pandemic to push further surveilance or other non constitutional issues into play which won't get removed aka some of the patriot act provisions.
I would consider it possible/likely depending on how fast it starts to spread in the US.

What makes this so scary is on February 14th a man walked into a hospital in Italy with Flu like symptoms, he had returned from China on January 21st. (24 days prior) He was not tested and sent home with flu medication. He returned 2 days later as his condition worsened. The 38-year-old man was asymptomatic for weeks, reportedly led an active social life, and potentially interacted with dozens of people before spreading the virus to his family and workers at Codogno Hospital. Today just 25 days later Italy has 148 deaths and 3,858 known infections. Today alone they experienced 769 new cases and 41 new deaths. What will the next 25 days bring?
