Don't know what kind this one is, but it sure looks nasty. It was at a shelter on the bike path in Greene Co.

That’s called a garden spider. Google it and it will give info on it. Very common in fields around here. I was running beagles in the summer years ago and was wearing shorts...as I followed the dogs around the field, I bumped into one of these and it bit my leg. Very painful but they are not poisonous. Had a scab around the bite area about the size of a dime.
Had a first encounter for me on Friday. Popped open the lid on a transformer to set it and the spider didn't look right. I went to snap a pic of it and it charged my hand. Thats when I see the red.

I'm 99% sure it's a brow widow. The strange thing is their habitat stops about northernTennessee. They can be found in south Carolina to texas and all over the south. That's why I asked you where the transformer was made as it was new but you said Ohio. Dude had to have hitched a ride somehow, or they're moving north.
Could've road in on parts. They're made to order, but aren't exactly custom. Just parts thrown inside to change for each need. Who knows where those parts come from.
