I'd imagine you don't use much fuel anyways in the beginning of the season, lol.

Just trying to save you some hassle. Those DOT officers won't care if it's full or empty.

I don't know the rules but they're nazis about it. My FIL put one in his truck and headed out on a western run to Arizona. Didn't make it past ST Louis before getting pulled over by motor carrier. Wrote him a ticket. He hadn't even filled it yet and was waiting until Oklahoma where diesel is cheaper. Here's the real kicker. The officer told him that even though he had already gotten a ticket it didnt prevent him from getting another one just down the road. So his advice was to get rid if it as soon as possible. He ended up pulling the pump and sold it to a scrap yard. They told him that it really wasn't about safety and more about taxes. States don't want guys hauling fuel on long runs and blowing right through the state. Which is dumb because he has to pay road use tax for every mile driven in each state based on his E-Log.

Yup. Those big tanks will get you on the side of the road in a hurry. Easy money and most people don't realize it's even a law until it's to late. "Ignorance is no excuse" lol

Ok. Pretty sure this one is 110 gallon. I will do some further research. With increasing fuel prices I would hate to have to raise my rates an extra 100 dollars per trip just to cover fuel prices.

I can’t speak for charters, but transportation companies added a fuel surcharge to everything and never reverted back. We still pay it on every invoice to the shop.
Chad, I’d throw a tarp over that tank if it’s too large to avoid placards. Won’t be a problem unless you have an accident. Politicians have shown it pays to be an outlaw.

Do you have different rates for trolling vs jigging?

What did everyone do when gas rocketed last time to over $5 a gallon? 06'? 07' time frame
Jigging charters are less than trolling usually just because I use less gas and don't necessarily have to pay a first mate.

Not sure what guys did when fuel prices went high back then but my guess was they passed it onto the customers just like every other business does.

Or a nice cap/topper. Looks sharp and another useful write off.

There are tons of guys driving around with transfer tanks in their pickups. Farmers especially. What gives?

Two words. Farm Union. They don't have to have a CDL or hazmat either as long as they're moving it for farm use.

And if it's gas.
Those are Illinois regulations if I'm reading that correct?

Most state adopt Federal DOT mandates.

And since you're hauling gasoline it's technically an 8 gallon limit.
