Order has been placed, and when combined with left overs from last year, makes a comfortable start. Getting some solid seed tray inventory is next on the list, as pickings are slim.

Got all 60 of the new seedling trays loaded tonight with Ty. Intent was to focus on the cold weather varieties but threw in some others to see if a super early jumpstart can help in the watermelon and pepper arena.

I could smell the fresh dirt in that picture all the way up here Jesse. With the warm snap this week, I was hoping it would be dry enough to be able to atleast cut in the new garden so it could help dry some more. Got a 1/3 in yesterday, and another 1/3 today.
Started 2/27: Broccoli has taken off really well, followed by spinach, followed by lettuce. Chives have just started, 1 watermelon showing and no action from the peppers. I think I might have drowned them with the amount of water I put in the trays yesterday lol.. Hoping they don't damp off too bad, some of the lettuce has dropped. Learning curve of new tools.

Mother nature played nice this week, so I took advantage and turned it all again. Another 1-2 times to work some amendments in should do it.
Round 1 of seedlings have been a mixed bag, broccoli and spinach doing well, followed by chives and lettuce. Peppers are just sprouting and only 1 watermelon has survived. Baby lettuce didn't stand a chance. Will transfer these to 4" pots this week and replant those who didn't fare well on round 1.
Now time to start finalizing the fence design and get it installed.
Jesse, I see you took your temp setup down for the winter, how bad was it and did any deer end up making a jump at night to forage?
Bankfish, please tell us more on your setup if you are willing. Looks to be about 4', do you have any deer to contend with?

No deer to speak of at my place. I only use "fence type materials " for the climbing veggies.
I have over 100 starters under lights in the basement now. Tilled part of the garden last week before the rain until I ran over a soccer net buried in the ground. Like to never got the thing cut out from under the tiller

Ty picked 10 brocolli seedlings to transplant, along with the 1 watermelon who just unrolled its first real leaf. Going to let the brocolli go for 1-2weeks to get roots going again and ensure they make it, then into the garden early April. Too many brocolli seeds together this round, they were pretty root bound.
2 more watermelon have began sprouting and tomorrow we will transplant the lettuce and spinach. All watermelons will get transplanted until late May before hitting the garden.
Peppers and chives need another week or so before transplanting.

Its been just over 1 week since the first round of transplants and everything is doing well to my surprise. Time to start watching the temps for a hardening/planting window and get their rows prepped. Saving some milk jugs to cut off the bottom, to place over each brocolli plant until the fence is up to protect from the rabbits and deer, and will act as a little greenhouse.

F-n mouse got into a bunch and topped most of them. So I had to start over. Never knew mice liked greens like that. Caught 5 of the little bastards so far.

Thats not cool, i would not have guessed that either. Are you setup in a small greenhouse or they get ya in the cold frame?

Finally got the garden area cleaned up and mowed down over the weekend. Need to start turning dirt before long.

Put the first row of red potatoes in this afternoon. Also put a row of snow peas in last evening

Tilled up my first big boy garden tonight. Went from 1 raised bed to 3. Now onto an actual garden. Can’t wait to start planting. Been reading this thread trying to learn from you guys!
Good, deep turn tonight after 2 progressively shallower turns. The soil looks great and is ready for some peas and a few other options in the very near future.
