Had a shoebox full of brass to sort this morning. This is just from so far this spring.
9mm, 45 small primer, 45 large primer, 357, 380, 223, 44 mag, 450 bushmaster, 38 spl, 556... and a few 40 s&w that got picked up by mistake.
I'm not afraid to go shooting, (this doesn't include the thousands of 22 lr we've gone through) but im gonna need to track down some more primers. And a set of 380 dies.
I'm of the opinion that hoarding is a big reason ammo is scarce. But it is coming back. I was at the Fin yesterday. They had plenty of ammo in stock. They have also increased their limit from one box of pistol caliber to 5 boxes, from 2 box of 223/556 to 10 boxes. No limit on rimfire. Prices are still high, but it is available.
Went downstairs to the reloading supplies... powder was fully stocked (they were out of varget, but he said they have been getting it regularly), limit of one can or keg of each. Plenty of primers as well, limit of 100 pistol and 100 rifle primers.
Just need the prices to come back down a little, but I feel we are rounding the corner.

I feel/worry about the 9 million new gun owners that can’t find ammo (to shoot) enough to become comfortable with the new gun and preferably be safe to be around. I always told my kids “you have no business carrying a gun unless your as comfortable with it as you are with you cell phone”.

How much of the market do you have to control before you control the market. I still don't buy their BS and believe they're purposefully keeping production at levels that spur scarcity. I have no doubts they're producing as much as they can. I also believe they're perfectly content riding that for as long as they can to keep prices high instead of further increasing production. It may not be a problem they created, but it sure as heck isn't one they want to solve.

My point was directly about the consequence all the new shooters bring with little to no range time as opposed to someone like many of us that have a “go to” gun that is part of your muscle memory. A tool that has seen hundreds or thousands of rounds through it.
I’m happy to see “new gun” buyers at historic numbers as that adds numbers of people supporting our right we have keep and bear arms by their actions.
I may not want to stand next to em at the range line, ... but I’m feeling for the percentage that have found a new passion like when we first started and they can’t afford or find ammo.

Yep. And only 100% over normal prices. $41 for a box of Core-Lokt that was $23. Never thought i'd see 30-06 over $2 a round.
Some Winchestwr WhiteBox 55gr 223 FMJ. $199.99 for 200 rounds.

Sitting here talking to my BIL who is an FFL. He said they're only seeing about a 10% price increase from distributors when they can get it. The majority of these insane markups are the retailers. They're trying to make up for a lack of volume by increasing the price of what they do sell. I'd they can sell one box for double the normal amount that's basically the same profit margin that they would make by selling 3-4 boxes.
as long as people keep paying these astronomical prices, they will keep gouging us.
