It's that time of year where the "yet to be identified" mushrooms have popped up. They are massive this year! The one in the second pick is 16" long and heavy!

Anyone know about boletes? I keep finding what I am sure is a bolete of some type. But from all my reading I am not 100% sure how to tell if they are edible.

There is a YouTube video showing that if they stain blue when you cut them, they should be avoided. These don’t stain blue but is that enough to say they are safe?

I also found these. I think they are purple laccaria. If that is the case they are edible.

I need a mushroom expert to walk my property with me. There is a lot of unknown fungus on my place.
If boletes don't bruise blue you can try a small piece to see if it is bitter or peppery. Chew it up & spit it out & wait a few minutes. If it is not bitter they should be ok. The other could be laccaria but could also be a cortinarious. Spore print is the only way to tell for sure. Spore print should be white. A cort would be rusty brown.

Good to know. I think knowing the look alike possibilities is one of the hardest parts of shrooming
