Walked 27 miles uphill in the snow to this stand. Or so it felt that way packing in decoy and everything else. Decoy out. Sprayed down. Tarsal glands hanging. Grunt call, rattling antlers, doe can call within reach. Sort of swinging for the fences here. Not many deer around. Might need to get their attention. May not use any of it but the decoy.

I do believe I was over dressed a tad bit for going in to climb a tree with my climber, but now I'm settled in just fine and comfortably. I've cooled off rather quickly, so all is well now.

I'm sitting right on top of the North Ridge, just off the main North creekshelf, which is right behind me, to the South, and I'm smack dab in between four very popular & major bedding areas, plus a couple of some heavy deer trails.

This is one of my favorite spots for deer encounters. I'm literally less than 100 yards away from my barn.

It's going to a challenge though spotting these deerz when they wake up I tell ya. Hopefully they all will do that much sooner than later, while I have good daylight.

My view from on top of the North Ridge for the first time this season.

And BTW, take another wild guess who decided to show back up early this mornin. He's been in hiatus since late summer and this first I got'em on TC since then. He broke off his left brow-tine. I have a few locals with broken racks already, of course, I also have more bucks in the area too this year.

Don't blink cause I'll be taking this video down very shortly.

Good luck this evening 'TOO'zers!

First to bat, a young 8 that criused right underneath me, at the base of my tree, then made a complete circle, and finally turned towards the house. I've got it all on video too.

Just now got down! Deer were absolutely everywhere tonight. Bucks fighting and grunting 20 feet under me for the last hour and a half. NUTS!!! Oak was just out of range at last light, chasing around two does and a doe fawn. Literally deer just running everywhere. One of the craziest sits of my year and a half of hunting ohio. Can not wait for tomorrow! I’m getting closer…..

Id like to hear what you do to prep your decoy as far as scent control and positioning of it.
Absolutely nothing. Mason smeared some ever calm on it the other day. We always plac it quartering to the stand. I set it really close today because I’m hunting with a recurve. They usually walk around behind it. I’ve never had a deer react badly due to the thing smelling badly. They are in such a focused trance I think you could throw rocks at em and they still wouldn’t leave.

I've had decoys cost me more than a couple big bucks. Although I've had several smaller ones come right in on a string. My experience with decoys and bigger bucks are that the older bucks have stopped well short of the decoys an stood back watching and waiting to see if they move. Then after a 2 minute standoff and the decoy doesn't move, they get spicious and leave not offering a shot. I've even put a piece of toilet paper on their ass to let the wind blow it around to make it look like a tail. I hope it works out for you today. Good luck.
