Samsung Ice Maker Issues

Ok, we’ve had a Samsung refrigerator for 3 years now. A while back it started freezing up and not making ice. I looked up a force defrost mode and it somewhat worked. But took a lot longer than a heat gun would. Another member (who’ll remain nameless at this time) also had the same issue. He’d contacted Samsung and they ok’d the ice maker replacement free of charge. So this morning I did the same. With the same results. Called and calmly explained the issue, listened too how he was surprised as he’d never knew there was any issues with their ice makers 🙄 I explained too him in a rational tone that indeed Samsung had issues, and with the internet they can’t hide them anymore. YouTube had the fix for it and it was a replacement of the ice maker.
After him getting a little more info, he asked to send a picture. He sent a text, I tested back what he needed, one being the email they didn’t show and another a picture of the ice maker with tray removed.

This was after a day and a half from the last defrost. Basically the refrigerator temps leak up into the ice maker causing it to freeze up, ice gets jammed and the whole thing quits working. If you go on YouTube you’ll see a plethora of videos referencing this issue. Talked too a sales associate at lowes and he said there was a class action lawsuit in the works on this. Lawyers will make a lot not so much for us. I’d rather them just fix the problem and be done with it.
Our refrigerator was 2 years over the warranty, and the other unnamed individual from this site was a little over double that X 2 😂

Twas I. Been doing the same thing for a few years, forced defrost. Like J described, its slow, and works for a few days, then right back to the same issue. Samsung is coming out this Friday to fix the issue.

B/c of this issue, I had ordered a new fridge from Lowes, that wouldnt be delivered until September. Found the video about the fix of calling Samsung, once I scheduled the repair/replacement, I canceled the new fridge.

Heres the video:

Yep. I had the same thing happen to me a couple of months after we bought it. I called Samsung and made a warranty request and told them I knew what the fix was. They send a guy out a few days later. He made the fix and recaulked the seams and we haven't had a problem since.

The recaulked seams, appear too be a common temp fix for it. But ultimately the ice maker and the metal tabs that route the runoff from the ice maker are the more permanent fix.

We have a Samsung and I am waiting for the day this happens to us. 😬
Hopefully it won’t, but if it does just call them and show them you dissatisfaction.
We've got a washer and dryer from them also. No issues so far. We did get a helluva deal on the refrigerator though. Over half off because of a dent in the door. $2500 fridge for less than a grand.

I had to fix the dang defroster in the back of my Samsung! A carefully crafted piece of metal hanger was all it took. Does that mean Im smarter than a Samsung engineer?! Or a dumb redneck with skills!

Its that little metal piece. It uses the heat from the defroster coil to keep the drain tube clear. The fridge defrosts and it drains to that tube. My model was missing that metal piece that absorbs heat from the coil and keeps the hole from freezing. So the hole froze and it defrosted and filled the bottom of my fridge with water.

I just wrapped around the coil a few times and dropped the tag end down into the hole.

Full Samsung house here, will be on the lookout for this, thank u.
Ours start happening about 6 months out of warranty, Adam. Got progressively worse. Went from happening every 3-4 weeks too weekly. The straw that broke the camels back on it, was we had the issue the week before the kids came for the 4th, then it happened again when they were here. Dustin and I already had the conversation.

Had a similar issue as @"J" where my dishwasher was 6 months out of warranty, and of course the part I needed in order to fix an issue was no longer being made. FUCK SAMSUNG. Replaced it with Bosch, outstadning TACT times, way better than Whirlpool. And now Im waiting on them to come fix my brand new fuckin TV. AGAIN. Just got a brand new one in Feb/Mar. last month b/c a thumb sized shadow appeared out of nowhere dead center at the bottom of the screen. So they replaced the screen, no questions asked. Last week it started power cycling on its own every 5 seconds. GGRRRR FUCK FUCK

The guy coming today to fix the fridge I believe is the same guy that fixed my TV the first time. Gonna see if he can fix the TV again or wait until they show up next Friday.

Tell him he isn’t leaving until all Samsung units are working properly! 😂

Our guy won’t be here until 2:00
