Back in. Had a very eventful morning until I hopped down at 9am to get help a neighbor of this permission I have, track his biggest buck. Turns out after we tracked him 1.23 miles through 3 properties, he was still alive. 5.5hrs later! Very good steady blood but turns out he must have missed vitals and just got small arteries in neck. Hit right behind left shoulder and exited left side of neck! Anyways follow up shot from 6 feet put him down! If any of you have followed along with me this year it was the split brow 10 I’ve passed on probably close to 6/7 times this year! Hell of a deer regardless! But I’m back in hoping and praying the giant is still around and I didn’t booger him today!

I'm in. Wind is all over, but I had to make a decision and chose the same ground attack location I was in 10 days ago. The buck I'd like to shoot has been in the Corner Pocket the last 2 nights and has approached from the same direction each time. In fact, every time he's been there (couple dozen) he comes from the S. There's one of 3-4 ways he's getting there and I'm covering 2 of them for sure and could maybe grunt him in from the 3rd. This is an all or nothing sit. If I see something, it'll probably be in bow range, but I'm very likely to be skunked. Wasn't killing him from the house, so I at least eliminated that variable.

So I went back out @ 1130 & nothing moved. 'bout fell asleep, so back home at 1:30. Then, 2 hrs later while in the house, 8pt came in to my blind. I was getting ready to go back out at 4, but the brittany was out running around in the woods. I just want to see some evening rutting activity to get my fix. I stayed in. Just after, somebody flipped a switch & does were everywhere. 5p, cams are still dinging & a big bodied 10 was milling around. He ended up latching onto a doe up behind the house & casually followed her past my shed & into the wood lot next to the house. I was in the porch & was able to stop him a few times but he had no interest.

Got to thinking tonight, I've spent the equivalent of at least one full-time employment year, or 2,080 hours, in the woods chasing whitetails in the last two decades. Makes you wonder what I could have been doing with that time that was more productive 😂 I went on to calculate that I've spent more than 1% of my life preparing for and hunting deer. That's 1% of life I'll never get back.

I just checked my log book. In the last 5 seasons I’m over 1100 hours in the stand. So like I said…amateur.
