Thanks guys, I wasn’t sure when I was going to but absolutely knew next hunting season I’d be retired. My last trip to the camp sealed the deal. Slept good, happy, no stress or pressure. Didn’t know what it should be like till one night at the camp, on the phone w the wife and I told her I’m done. 33 years and a month, I promised myself and my mom I’d do 33 years, basically maxed out with a 3 year drop.

So an update, had a what I thought was a doe around 250 (same place I missed….twice) and deer turned broadside. I said that ain’t no doe because it grew. Raised my rifle and seen 2 good tines sticking up. Lowered my gun and text dj to shoot him. He walked out of my vision and I heard boom-crack. Usually it’s the opposite. Dj tells me he missed, I say I heard a hit. He said he stood there then wheeled off tail down. In the meantime, he had a nice 8 come out to the side and he didn’t shoot and later asking me about a buck. I’m looking his way and he steps out and crosses. Good tines but not the caliber that he just shot at. We will look after our hunt and maybe send out a nut pic. Oh it rained it’s ass off last night. We got a break from it but it’s starting again.

Alrighty boys and girls, we back in action. So to catch up we didn’t hunt the lottery, but Hunter did. He killed a big doe and two pigs.

Me and Dj just made it to the camp before this front. Tornado warnings are out and shit fixing to hit the fan. We all hunting the property in the morning in the rain, supposed to rain all night and tomorrow till 3-4pm. View attachment 168433
this is Hunters attire most days hunting on public. He’s got half the campground wearing this shit thinking they will kill like him 😂. View attachment 168434
weather should be good from here on out. Duck season opens back up Saturday. Hoping to put a buck on the ground, then focus on my feathered friends.

It works when going to archery shoots too…look at those purple pants! Pics were taken close to 30 years ago. It was a 3 day tournament down in Maryland….I guess I’m a trend setter!😂😂

Nothing harmed this evening. Seen a spike and smaller 8. Dj seen two does that was on his other turnrow. Water coming up over my road on bayou and we had to wear waders and snorkeled atv to cross. I knew it would rise even more and it rose another foot in 2.5 hours. Pulled up tonthe truck and ole green jeans was behind my truck. got off and talked to him. he recognized me and he said he seen a truck so he stopped. i said yes its mine and this is my property. He rolled out, didnt check our licenses but did opening day of teal season and twice last year. we have lifetime and im always very respectful and never have issues w the law. so he rolled out.

Got in stand a little late this evening. Dj dropped me off at the big field stand and was going back to hunt the double. As soon as I reached my ladder the phone went off. It was two does on the double plot. Texted D and told home. He seen 6 does and bumped a couple coming out. I seen a good buck at 4,500 feet (not my property) and had a bunch of does and a 2 yr old 7 pt bumping does.

Well I can’t get it done but Hunter knows how to make them bleed. Went to a nwr in arkansas to bow hunt. Scouted yesterday after arriving at 2pm. Today he seen 3 shooters and killed a doe, seeing 23 deer total. Sure am proud of him and his determination to hunt with the bow.

So this morning we decided to change it up a little. Dj hunted his stand and I hunted the double stand. Both stands are to the north end of property and have woods north of us. Dj seen a couple does and a spike, I seen 3 does. This lull in action was wearing on me bad since earlier in the season I was seeing up to 25 a hunt. My neighbor to the south shot early and I hit him up by text. He said yote down! Later I hear two shots and he text me shot at a good buck. After looking for him he only came up with white long hair, no blood. We got out the stand around 11 and headed for the camp.

Arrived at the camp and woofed down a pb&j sammy and hooked up with Gavin to put boat in the river and set some lines. His family was coming up and his young boy was upset the last time we ran lines he wasn’t here. They will run them tomorrow.

it’s now 2:30 and I texted my neighbor Blake where he was. He said headed to hunt. I jumped in the truck and called him. The weather was turning for a front to come in tonight and clouded up bad. I asked him where should I hunt. Told him middle or big field stand. He said middle and I bitched cause I haven’t had anything come out by me. It was dead still and I was getting burnt out and wasn’t too excited to hunt. Dj went w bow in the nwr so I was alone. Since it was very cloudy I decided to hunt the middle. Me and Blake were texting, told him I haven’t even seen a bird or heard one….it was that bad snd he agreed. I was playing and said I’m shooting the first thing I see…..that’s closer than 50 yards. He laughed cause we both missed good bucks and I said our deer wearing vest. His buck this morning was at 285. He shot at his camp and was 4” low and 2” to the side which put him 12-13” at 300.

Anyway I had a spike come out around 280 and went to the side where he couldn’t be seen. Later I see a dark colored deer and I put my rifle up to check them and it’s a big doe and fawn around 200 yards. They slowly fed my way and I catch what I thought was the spike around 240. He ducked off and came back and I could make out two deer. Scoped them and I thought the other deer was a six or small 8. I kept looking and he finally gave me a good look and I could see a wide rack and he turned his head. It was the 10 pt. Told myself make a good shot. Does was still working my way and bucks was 30 yards behind or more feeding towards me. Around 220 yards he turned broadside and my safety was off and spike lined up with him. I tried to calm myself down and was hesitant on pulling the trigger. The spike moved and 10 pt was slightly quartering to. I was talking to myself…..focus, breathe and make a good shot. Crosshairs were on his leading shoulder and circled into where I want to hit and pulled. Shot rang out and I seen him donkey kick and run into the crp towards the creek. Felt good but the mishaps from before had me doubting myself. Blake texted me and said got him. I asked it he heard the hit and he said twack-boom. I felt better but still shell shocked. I told him I’m gonna need help but to finish his hunt because we still had 30 minutes left. Rain was coming and at 5:25 he said he was on his way because the rain is coming. Seems like it always rains when you shoot a good buck. I got down, it’s almost dark and walked down looking for blood and the spot where I thought he was standing. No blood and the gut feeling sank in. Walked back and forth and found a few drops of blood. Put my hat on a stick so Blake would know where to stop if I was in the crp. Crossed the ditch but couldn’t find blood or tracks. Walked around looking but nothing. Blake and his friend arrived and we set out to find him. Walked up 20 yards and found drops of blood. Followed it up a total of 50 yards and there he laid.
