Them two made a deer hunt from 8-10 seeing 11 does and 3 bears. They came back as we all was gonna brush my blind. We cut a ton of shit and struggled to get it out to the blind. We got in done waiting for mallards to show.

Morning hunt went like this. I was the last one to the parking spot and 5 minutes late. We had plenty of time. I forgot my phone at the camp hurrying and the rest of the duck hunt followed that start. Had some come in at shooting time but really too dark to see in the green trees with the heavy overcast. We all shot like shit and ended up with 4 birds between 5 of us, really 4 of us Gavin had his boy. I ended up killing 2 and Gavin snd Blake killed one each.

Back in the deer stand and is 50 degrees now and big front coming in after dark w temps dropping to 13 and wind gusting 30-40. Probably won’t duck hunt but just in the deer stand w the heater.

Hunted this evening with a mist to light rain. Heavy overcast and seen 5 does, a 2 yr old 6 pt. Also seen what looked like a good buck fast walk across the lane at 250. Wind started howling around five and I got out the stand 10 minutes before shooting time because it was dark.

14 degrees in the morning w a steady nw wind at 18 with gust to 30. I’m not duck hunting, Pearl don’t have her vest and I don’t want to subject her to the cold basically standing in water half the time. Instead, I will be in the stand w a 20# propane bottle to run the heater. Will bring a thermos of hot chocolate and maybe a couple sandwiches just in case I want to make it an all day event.

I know y’all have much colder weather, buts it’s different down here. Very wet and drills right into your core quick. I’ve hunted in the Midwest in 2degrees with less clothes in a lokon and didn’t get cold. Anyway let’s just see what unfolds. Will check my pond for bell pepper heads. Hopefully have a bunch.

Hunted this morning in n what seemed like 20 mph wind and gust much stronger. No deer movement till 10 and by 11 I was ready to get out. 13 degrees this morning w feel like -2, seen 7 does.
Drove an hour to a sporting goods store to buy a hunting vest for pearl. Not that she had to have it, but will be more comfortable for her. If she was an outside dog, she could bare the cold much better. But being an inside dog, their coat don’t come in like being outside all the time. So I’d like to say this, maybe you know, if not remember this. Your dog can get hyperthermia in the water, it don’t have to be freezing. Keep your dogs out the water the best you can and let them run a little while things are slow.
This evening it warmed up to 23 and was sunny so I sat the big field. Seen a bunch of deer, only one close….a spike. Watched a 2 yr old 8 point chasing a doe and across the field I seen a bunch of does and a lone buck, 8pt at least 3 yrs old feeding hard on the grass growing in the ag field. He was 800 yards away.

Tomorrow going w a friend Lee, going by boat on the Mississippi River back water oxbow to hunt some ducks.

Well we couldn’t get where we wanted this morning as someone was already set up there. We set up at another place and seen plenty of mallards but they didn’t want to commit there. We moved and got closer but ended up scratching.

So we almost about to roll out and I get an alert from my cam. Open it up and it’s the g3 buck in shooting range of my stand. Hunter texted me right away and it says “Izzeedownnn?” 😂 told him nope I’m duck hunting and freezing nig like an idiot! Anyone have an idea where I should hunt this evening?

Hunted deer this evening seeing 9 does and fawns. Did see the g3 buck for a moment as he was filling a doe. She came out on the edge and took a few steps snd went back in. He popped out and went back in following her. Maybe we will meet in the morning. Any guesses where I will be? Haha

So the story goes like this. Yesterday morning I went duck hunting and got a fat zero for kills. I did get a pic of a good buck at 9:30. Yesterday evening I hunted and had an encounter for a brief second w a good buck. He was following a doe that I could barely see for like 30 seconds. She ducked in the grass from the same side she entered. I caught a 4 second look at a good buck following here. The plan was to get him this morning hopefully.

Got in the stand 30 minutes before shooting time. Heavy frost and 19 degrees. Turned my heater on to defrost the windows. Day broke and nothing was seen till almost 9. A doe stepped out, stopped in the lane and looked back before crossing in what looked like a hurry. Come about 9:30 and I heard footsteps in leaves close to the stand. I’m like shit a bear is near and gonna get on my atv, they love to chew your seats. Looked at my bike but nothing there. Then I caught a glimpse of a deer under me to the front, probably 10 yards away. She looked at the stand but was upwind of me and I’m 12’ from the floor. She pops out and I hear and see another, then another and another. Each one spocking my ass before hitting the lane. They walk down about 50 yards away to my north and the last bitch is looking over her back at me. I look down towards Djs stand and I see a reddish looking deer. Looks like it has horns. The doe turns around and I raise my binoculars to check him out. Looks like a shooter but is too far. He popped out the left side, stood there looking where he came from and goes back in. Pops out again and goes back again like he’s watching deer and checking. Finally I see him just inside the trees and looks like he’s headed towards me. Almost an hour passes w no deer and I look up and he pops out around 120 yards and fixing to cross. I bleat as I’m grabbing my rifle and he freezes and looks. Put the crosshairs on him and sized him up, I said yup and squeezed off a round of “he can’t handle that” and he bucks and runs in the grass. No crash was heard and I started texting. Got down 15 minutes later looking for blood but wasn’t any. I look back at stand and thought I went down to far and started coming back and could see him maybe 20 yards from the shot. I thought I was just shooting an 8 pt but ended up being the Split G3 that I missed twice earlier in the season. His 9 lives ran out. I cash in on the G3 buck.
